The long awaited opening of Cowaramup Brewery took place in October 2006 attended by almost one hundred trades people who had worked on the project over the past 21 months.

They sampled the three beers on tap as well as a selection of food from the menu. Guest included Kajay Plumbing, Cowararmup – Margaret River Electrical, Catchy’s Cabinets, Halsall Logan Town Planners to name but a few.

Jeremy Good, head brewer, completed the first brews with the help of Brendan Varis from Feral and Michael Brookes from Bootleg.
They did not go without the inevitable teething problems including the discovery that there was no paddle to mash in with! Improvisation using a now secret piece of new “brewing equipment” proved very successful and may soon be seen in use at both Feral and Bootleg!!

The three beers including Special Pale Ale, a Hefeweizen wheat beer and a Pilsner are now available at the microbrewery for sale on tap.
The Special Pale Ale had been brewed using Maris Otter as the base malt with three other specialty malts, finished using Goldings as well as three other hop additions.
The Hefeweizen is a Bavarian style unfiltered wheat beer using German wheat resulting in a light golden colour and an off white head.
The Pilsner is pale gold in colour with a distinct hoppy aroma and moderately bitter.

Jeremy also plans to have a decidedly hoppy and moderately strong India Pale Ale available before Christmas.
Seasonal and speciality beers are also planned for the new venue.

The Special Pale Ale and India Pale Ale have been designed around traditional English recipes and will be available on traditional hand pumps sourced directly from England.
Cowaramup Brewing Company has been lucky in securing a young chef, Cain Humberstone whose credits include Apprentice of the Year in South Australia.
He has previously worked at Leeuwin Estate as well as a number of well known restaurants in Sout
