This is theatre and digital animation at its most exquisite...
Enter a strange and fantastical metropolis of floating ships, mysterious lights, alien symbols and curious animals. Adapted from Shaun Tan's multi-award winning book, The Arrival will take you on one man's moving journey to an unknown world.
This unique theatrical experience traverses themes of freedom, migration, survival, love and acceptance.
Follow our hero Aki as he starts a life amidst the extraordinary inhabitants of this new land. Will he ever find a place to live? Will he find a job and make friends? Most of all, will Aki ever see his family again?
The absence of words not only makes this story perfect for puppetry but also emphasises the isolation experienced by many people arriving in a new place. The Arrival is a fusion of Tan's beautiful and surreal illustrations with exquisite puppetry, haunting music and fine acting. This ground breaking production blurs the boundaries of performance, digital animation and puppetry.
Named "Best Production" for 2006 at the Perth Theatre Trust/Actors Equity Guild Awards, this is an emotionally moving piece, which will touch anyone who has bid farewell to a loved one.
For more details, interviews or review copies of the CD please contact Freya Hanly on 0417 192 713 or by email at freya@freyahanly.com.
Fresh back from a highly successful East Coast tour Freya Hanly will be heading south for a couple of solo shows with her brand new second studio album in hand. The new album “Quiver” is a 13 track release which has been carefully crafted over the last few years to deliver Freya’s finest work to date. The album truly is a reflection of the dedicated passion that has been put into it and is an outstanding showcase of both the uplifting full-band vibe of That Brutal Moon in songs like Evaporate and Cow For Sale, as well as her gifted style of composition in the more ambient, awe-inspiring pieces such as Don’t Follow Me. Traversing a sea of folky-jazz melodies, country ballads, humorous love songs and deeply poetic, classically influenced pieces, Freya Hanly’s eclectic musical background has fuelled a range and diversity of songs incomparable to most artists of her genre. Her innovative guitar style combined with impeccably pure vocals has the ability to drift easily over a vast musical terrain, taking her listeners anywhere from the living room to the dance floor to the breathtakingly sublime. Catch Freya at The Bootleg Brewery on Sat Nov 22 from 1.30pm and at Caves House Sun 23rd from 5pm.

Percussion Junction's debut album ……The Beat Cartel : "what is a very interesting LP by a groundbreaking Australian act. The sound can also be considered very international and should project the group even further into many music listeners' consciousness as one to check out whenever they are in town." Most bands would say one drummer is enough, but more is more in the world of Percussion Junction. Packing beats like soldiers pack bullets, the boys have declared all out war on dance floors' across the nation. Percussion Junction's debut album 'The Beat Cartel' is a 100-proof brew of Afro-Latin drumming distilled with hip hop, reggae, electro, house and breaks. As an organized funk syndicate, 'Junction' composes with an orchestral army of percussion. Kane Goodwin (drum kit) Matty Bourne (congas, bongos & djembe) and Paul Issa (Doumbek) are backed by Benjamin 'Bentley' Chinnock on decks and sampler.
With Triple J picking up the beat and FBI already dropping it as album of the week, the boys have supported international and local acts Krafty Kuts (UK), Talvin Singh (UK), Panjea (US), Infusion, Koolism, Kid Kenobi and Ajax. They've taken over Sydney venues like Home, Opera Bar, The State Theatre, The Basement and Telstra Stadium and played to sell out crowds at The Amnesty International Freedom Festival, Earthdance and Sydney Festival's Becks Bar. The also continue to build fans Australia wide with tours to South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland and now Western Australia.
