Augusta
It is time for a break… Welcome to Augusta!
Untouched...
Still relatively undiscovered by the tourism world, Augusta itself is a best kept secret. Here you can holiday in comfort without the crowds. There's heaps to do and it is not rare to find your footsteps are the first on one of the many beaches.
The town of Augusta lies on the south-western tip of Australia. To view the wilderness of Cape Leeuwin nearby and absorb the realization that this is where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet, make Augusta seem like a last frontier. Many nautical miles further south, is, after all, Antarctica.
Steeped in history, Augusta is the third oldest settlement in W.A., the first white settlers having arrived in 1830. The town was named after Princess Augusta, the daughter of George 111 of England.
The 1880's saw the timber industry in the area and timber baron M.C. Davies helped build the lighthouse. A new wave of arrivals came in the 1920's, encouraged by the Group Settlement Scheme which was a joint venture between the State, Federal and British governments.
Today Augusta is a thriving community…Why not join us in this wonderful corner of the world!
Pristine...
Augusta is the ideal year round escape destination with its breath taking scenery and mild Mediterranean climate. Nestled at the mouth of the beautiful Blackwood River, Augusta has some of the most pristine beaches in the world, which are perfect for swimming, diving, kitesurfing, windsurfing, surfing and fishing. The annual Augusta River Festival held in March showcases the diversity and attraction of the Blackwood.
Within a short drive you can visit stunning limestone caves and majestic Karri forest, the world class wineries of the Margaret River Wine Region . There really is no better place to relax and unwind. Furthermore Augusta has known, and still has a seafaring life. Fishing here is about as good as it gets.
Experience Nature...
From the aquamarine waters, down the ancient cave-carved Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge, through the picturesque vineyards and karri forest of the heartland, to the desolate beauty of Cape Leeuwin, Augusta is a place of splendid natural contrasts.
From May through December, Augusta is blessed by the migration of Humpback, Southern Right and the endangered Blue Whale. Indeed, Winter in Augusta is W.A.'s best kept secret. Protected from strong north - westerly winds by Cape Leeuwin, the gentle conditions of Flinders make it perfect for whale watching charters in the region from late May through to September.
For the ultimate eco experience Augusta has on offer a plethora of activities and attractions that will entertain the budding and experienced nature lovers and adventurers. Mountain bike trails and more exploratory walking trails are found all through the Leeuwin National Park and along the rugged coastline.
