Marri Tree Girl

Art, Culture & Climate: local conversations across regional WA

calendar
Friday, 7th March 2025 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Description

Spotlight on Marri Tree Girl.

Regional Arts WA (RAWA) and Arts Margaret River (AMR) are hosting a conversation on Wadandi Boodjar, offering fresh perspectives on climate change, cross-sector collaboration and working with community in the region.

Facilitated by WA Climate Leaders, Meri Fatin, the conversation will spotlight Sky River’s Marri Tree Girl Project, a creative collaboration inspired by research on tree-based folklore and scientific studies on Marri Canker, a fungal disease impacting the South West Marri trees.

Panellists include Sky River, Katharina Meister, Jacque Ashworth, Drew McKenzie (Nature Conservation) and the Undalup Association.

The Art, Culture & Climate: local conversations across regional WA series aligns with Thrive! Regional Arts, Culture & Creativity Investment Framework – Regional Arts WA’s five-year strategy to support arts and cultural organisations across regional WA. One of the key topics is addressing the impacts of climate change, which is key to building resilient communities. By prioritising local sustainable practices, communities can strengthen their identity, promote climate hope, and foster long-term resilience.

The conversation series is part of the Regional Arts Network initiative, proudly supported by Minderoo Foundation and The Ian Potter Foundation, and with funding from the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund.

Venue: Margaret River HEART – Nala Bardip Mia
