On Friday 22 nd of March we are hosting a fundraising event for the Dunsborough Volunteer Bushfire Brigade Service.
We are requesting donations from local businesses to put together some enticing hampers for a raffle that will be drawn on the night of the event. Tickets for the raffle will be available to purchase from Monday the 11th of March.
Dunsborough Volunteer Bushfire Brigade is one of Dunsborough’s two volunteer fire brigades. With specially equipped white fire trucks the bushfire brigade deal with fires in the rural areas such as farms, wineries and bushland.
They frequently work together with the Dunsborough Volunteer Fire
and Rescue Brigade, who utilise the red fire trucks to attend crashes, rescues and structural fires. As one of the larger Bushfire brigades in the state, Dunsborough Volunteer Bushfire Brigade is frequently called on to attend major bushfires throughout the region, often being away from family for days or weeks at a time.
The basic equipment of bushfire brigades are funded through the Emergency
Services Levy, however it is up to the Brigades own fundraising efforts to enable them to purchase additional tools or safety items. This is why this is such an important event for us all to support.
The funds raised will go towards purchasing a thermal imaging camera desperately needed for the brigade. During the ‘mop up’ stage a hot spot not generating any smoke and not visible to the naked eye can be smoldering in the
root system underfoot and flare up again days or even weeks later.
Being able to more easily identify these hot spots with the camera will help ensure all fires are completely put out. This new piece of equipment will also assist the brigade to manage their water usage wisely as many of the locations that the brigade find themselves operating in have limited to no water access.
The event will kick off on the Friday afternoon and will be located directly out the front of Occy’s in the Lions Park.
The brigade will be on site in uniform with their trucks present to catch attention and we are looking into a few
options for some interactive activities to get everyone involved (rope roll out competition etc.). The event and raffle
details will be advertised on social media as well as in the newspaper in the weeks leading up to the event.
How will the funds be raised for the brigade-
*Occy’s will have a ‘Brigade beer’ on tap for the event. All takings from this tap during the event will be donated to
the brigade. We will also donate any takings from fire engines (red soft drink) sold during the event.
*The raffle will run from the Monday 11th of March with tickets available to purchase direct from Occy’s. The raffle will be drawn on the evening of the event, although the winner’s will not need to be present at the time they are
All proceeds from the raffle will go to the Brigade. We have received our first donation from Warren and Margaret Dean of Canal Rocks Beach Apartments that consists of two nights in a two-room ocean view apartment.
How can you help-
*We would appreciate a donation small or large, anything that we can include in (or even use as) one of the prize hampers.
*Please spread the word about this event and share the event posts on social media in the coming weeks.
*Come on down yourself to the event and buy a Brigade beer to show your support and appreciation for the
Dunsborough Volunteer Bushfire Brigade Service.
