Margaret River Group Settlement Centenary

The Margaret River & Districts Historical Society is celebrating the Centennial of Group Settlement to our district. This event will commemorate the emigration of thousands of men, woman and children to our district beginning in 1921, firstly to Manjimup, then to our area of the South West. (Read more here).

Commemorations begin at 10 am at the Old Settlement, where the public can enjoy stalls, displays and entertainment until late afternoon, and get a glimpse of into the life experienced by the “Groupies”. These will include local crafts people demonstrating wood turning, weaving, rug making, wool spinning and cooking activities. Plus there will be and gold-panning demonstrations,

Other highlights will be bush band Ten Cent Shooters, an animal nursery, morning tea and produce stalls, sausage sizzle and access to the volunteer-run museum buildings. Plus there will be an unveiling of a commemorative plaque and statue at the Old Settlement and a special screening of “No Milk, No Honey” – a film documenting the Group Settlement era.
