Description

What if the Wild Ones called to you, but no-one else could hear them, would you listen? Would you follow them?

Welcome to Marri Tree Girl’s world premiere, a magical new work featuring stunning puppets and digital animation, by Margaret River’s very own Folk of the Puppetree. This enchanting ecological sci-fi weaves worlds of science, music and characters inspired by the South West, to explore connection, care and local marri trees.

The story follows Marri, a part-human, part-tree, hybrid child. She lives in a futuristic world, where the outside air is filled with floating spores and humans live in a dome to survive. When voices of the wild become too loud to ignore, Marri escapes dome life and explores life outside, in the bush.

Join Marri Girl on her adventure as she follows the Wind, meets hybrids such as Roo-Panman, Emu-Fern and mysterious shapeshifting Crow-Women. Gathering powers from the Earth, Marri wonders, is she the link between two worlds? Can she help create a new future?

Folk of the Puppetree are engaging with local groups and schools offering hybrid puppet-making programs. Workshops were held at Margaret River HEART – Nala Bardip Mia in January and community work will be featured in the foyer.
