New beginnings – what does that mean to you?
What is the bigger picture? A new life, second chances, new direction, asylum, starting over, starting fresh…new relationships, career paths, moving to a new location, starting your own family…reincarnation, rebirth…
For the artist in me new beginnings are about blank canvases, recycling, reusing (canvases, materials), it’s about experimentation, it’s about texture/no texture, busy/calm, minimalist/all the colours, fluid/geometric, pink is the new black, it’s about letting go, it’s about daring to try, it’s about opportunities – grabbing them, it’s about allowing myself to be the best artist (and person) I can be.
This collection of works is an eclectic display of new beginnings. Many pieces have had a past life. Some are experimental in colour palette, design, materials used, themes but all have a trace of the past influencing their outcome – some texture here, some “words” peeking through, some memories attached. Despite their new beginnings the past is always present. Art mirrors life.
