The Scape of Belonging Exhibition – Michael Francas
18 September 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until 13/10/2019
Following the success of the painting ‘I Belong’ in the City of Busselton Art Awards 2018, Michael Francas returns to the ArtGeo Gallery this September with a solo exhibition. Michael’s painting was chosen from a field of 123 entries from across the state in the 2018 Award and won him the $10,000 acquisitive art prize and solo exhibition.
The Scape of Belonging is a survey of paintings that continues the artist’s dominant themes of exile and belonging inspired by the landscape. Coming from a displaced European migrant heritage, Francas’ father was a Lithuanina WW2 refugee and Spanish mother, the concept of belonging when confronted by a strange new landscape is a concern negotiated in these works via the painting process. Michael’s creative artistic approach in these paintings is highly improvisational and allows for ambiguity and accidental outcomes.
Open daily 10am to 4pm, free entry.
