A Mecca for Wine Worship
A chapel is traditionally a place for quiet contemplation, prayer or meeting like-minded people. This chapel is much more!
Since opening in August 2014, The Wine Chapel at Howard Park Winery has celebrated weddings, hosted exclusive lunches and dinners, witnessed private wine tastings, overseen intimate celebrations, and wined and dined VIPs. It’s aptly named.
Howard Park is one of the Margaret River region’s most visually impressive wineries with its long sweeping entry lined by Birch trees, acres of vines, commanding cellar door architecture, manicured lawns surrounded by native trees and more recently, The Wine Chapel.
Inspiration for The Wine Chapel came to owners Jeff and Amy Burch from the private wine tasting rooms of Europe. It provides a lovely contrast to the vastness of the cellar door, creating a cosy atmospheric retreat with an Australian edge.
Open only by appointment, The Wine Chapel offers visitors to the region something a little more exclusive and special, allowing guests to have the venue to themselves for private tastings and dining.
Décor in The Wine Chapel is opulent but restrained. The smaller of the two rooms is warmly decorated with leather lounges, timber feature walls and furnishings. Burch family and winemaking photos complete the cosy lounge space. This opens into a larger room perfect for wining and dining with stunning teardrop glass light fixtures, concrete walls, polished concrete floors and views through across the Leston vineyard and Wilyabrup Creek.
A large paved terrace outside the chapel connects with the gardens, majestic gum trees and vineyard. It’s been used on many occasions for drinks, dining and dancing.
The Howard Park events team works with a selection of talented local chefs to create bespoke private and corporate events for clients in The Wine Chapel. It provides an alternative to a fixed restaurant and means events can be tailored to suit, to create something intimate and memorable.
The Wine Chapel is ideal for weddings with the option of the lawns, chapel and terrace space to make your own.
Private tastings are popular and easy to arrange. The venue works particularly well for groups familiar with wine and looking to have a particularly special or exclusive tasting experience. Burch Family Wines have 30 years of winemaking history so there is a rich variety of wines to taste across the Howard Park, Marchand & Burch and MadFish labels. The events team will liaise with organisers to find out which wines they would like to taste. Cheese boards, a chef-prepared lunch or canapes can all be added to the experience.
Private tastings in The Wine Chapel typically last for an hour and a minimum of 10 days’ notice is requested to ensure the space is available. Bookings can be made for eight or more people for $50 per head, or a $400 fee is charged for smaller groups. Talk to local tour operators to arrange transfers from your accommodation or include The Wine Chapel in your itinerary.
Groups can also arrange a private tour to venture behind the scenes and learn the Howard Park winemaking process from fruit to bottle.
Howard Park also hosts regular annual and one-off events events. Next in the calendar is the Wine Chapel Pop Up Restaurant with renowned chef Paul Iskov from Fervor.
On 28 October guests will be able to share in owner Jeff Burch’s love of Pinot Noir at the annual International Pinot Tasting. Expect tasting in the barrel hall, followed by lunch and dancing at The Wine Chapel. Book quickly as it’s always a sell-out.
In November Howard Park will host two sell-out Margaret River Gourmet Escape events.
Keep an eye on the website or social media for upcoming summer events including Bubbles & Blossoms and Oysters & Riesling.
