For the nature-buffs, we suggest a  road trip down to the very south-west corner of Western Australia and the seaside town of Augusta. Climb mainland Australia’s tallest lighthouse, jump on a Blackwood River cruise, get underground at Jewel Cave or cool off with an afternoon swim in the turquoise waters of Hamelin Bay. You might even catch a glimpse of the resident stingrays, patrolling the beach.

In the evening, enjoy dinner back in town. Margaret River offers options to cater to all tastes and atmosphere. Select from pub or brewery fare with amazing craft beer and extensive wine lists. Or look for bistro-style wine bars, modern Australian, seafood, Japanese or Italian fare.

Day 5: Monday 18 November

Free day

After check-out and depending on your energy levels, here are some suggestions on how to make the most of your last precious hours in Margaret River region:

  • Go gallery hopping – the region is home to an amazing array of artisans and craftspeople
  • Book a morning of whale watching on Geographe Bay (departures from Busselton or Dunsborough)
  • Burn off some of that weekend indulgence, with a walk along the 1.8km Busselton Jetty or a short section on the famous Cape to Cape Track

If you’ve still got energy to burn, a flying fox and high ropes adventure in the Tuart Forest awaits. Just 15min north of Busselton, on your way back towards Perth.

After growing up in Sydney's Northern Beaches and then spending a decade travelling the world, Peta likes to think of herself as the Margaret River Region's chief FOMO (fear of missing out). She has now held a South West passport for just on 10 years and can be found hiking the coastline, casting a line, biking a trail, camping under the stars, hitting up a festival, tending to her vegie patch (badly) or simply enjoying the company of family and friends with a craft beer or local wine in hand! Did she mention she suffers from FOMO?
