Things to see and do

To complement your conference program, we have also included the following Ecotourism Accredited tours and experiences.

Coastal & Wildlife Ecotour with South West Eco Discoveries

Join local brothers Ryan and Mick for an an exceptional morning out on the Cape. Experience amazing vistas of Geographe Bay and find out about its historical and ecological significance. Watch the underwater world without getting wet. View the ancient limestone cliffs of Cape Naturaliste and enjoy interpretive ‘mini walks’ or wildflower viewing.  There’ll be plenty of opportunities for wildlife spotting: dolphins, birds, reptiles and kangaroos, plus amazing sea life (binoculars provided) . Take in the spectacular sights of Sugarloaf Rock while sitting down to a locally sourced morning tea platter with refreshments.

Busselton Jetty & Underwater Observatory Tour, Busselton

Extending 1.8 kilometres over the protected waters of Geographe Bay, the heritage listed Busselton Jetty is the longest wooden-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. Board the  solar-powered jetty train and travel to the end of the Jetty to visit the Underwater Observatory. Descend 8 metres to the ocean floor via a spiral staircase to discover an awe-inspiring forest of vividly coloured tropical and sub-tropical corals, sponges, fish and invertebrates. Eleven viewing windows at tidal points allow visitors to look out on some of the 300 marine species that live beneath.

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, Augusta

This historic lighthouse is situated at the most south-westerly point of Australia, at the tip of a spectacular peninsula – where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet.

Take a trip through maritime history and learn how this famous landmark was constructed from local limestone in 1895, and is still a vital working lighthouse for vessels navigating the treacherous cape. Wander the new Interpretive Centre, housed within one of the original lighthouse keeper quarters or celebrate your visit with coffee

and cake at the cafe after conquering the 176 steps to the top of the tallest lighthouse on Australia’s mainland.

Jewel Cave Tour, Augusta

Jewel Cave is the biggest show cave in Western Australia, with three massive chambers of incredible beauty. Gaze on delicate helectites, cave coral, pendulites, a very large stalagmite called ‘The Karri Forest’, and beautiful examples of flowstone such as ‘The Frozen Waterfall’ and ‘the Organ-pipes’.

Dunsborough Whale Watch morning, aboard Naturaliste Charters

Every year more than 35,000 Humpback whales plus other species including Blue Whales, Southern Right Whales & Minke Whales migrate along the West Australian coastline on their annual migration to warmer waters. Having now held a South West passport for just on 10 years she can often be found hiking the coastline, casting a line, biking the trails, camping under the stars, hitting up a festival, tending to her kitchen garden (badly) or simply enjoying the company of family and friends with a craft beer or local wine in hand! Did she mention she suffers from FOMO?
