We hope to see you visit and become a "Happster" soon!
The Happs name is synonymous with producing wine. The family name can be traced back to 1849 and a small village called Eltville on the banks of the Rhine in Germany. The name 'Happ' means “the cutter of vines.”
Inspired by the 60's promise of great viticultural potential in the Margaret River region, we planted our first vines in Dunsborough in 1978. Since then we have steadfastly pursued the objective of producing fine wines.
In 1994, Erl Happ’s research on climate conditions and grape growing led us to purchase land in Karridale, just south of Margaret River, and the Three Hills vineyard was born. The cool and cloudy climate experienced in Karridale yields excellent fruit flavours.
Following a ‘sensibly organic’ viticultural philosophy, we use minimal chemicals in our hand-managed vineyards. This approach is essential for our offering of preservative free wines.
Drawing from 35 grape varieties the winery has the most extensive range of wine styles in the region. Be it sweet, dry, preservative free, fortified or a rare varietal, Happs truly gives you the opportunity to experience a flavour frontier.
