How did that happen? 2018 has whizzed past and we have just one month until the new year kicks in. There is plenty happening down in the Margaret River region now the days are long, the sun is shining and holiday time is on the horizon. Brace yourself – this is a big month of things to do…

There are ample Xmas events to ho-ho-hop along to and enjoy the Christmas magic with all the family. We have carols, Christmas lights and community events to get your bells on for. Alternatively, get your dancing shoes out with gigs galore – perfect to help work off the feasting and drinks that seem to be never needing at this time of year. Finally, it is time to say goodbye to 2018. There are New Year’s Eve events for all tastes: from indulging in a dego through to dancing into the first dawn of 2019.

Yalls Summer Fest | 1st December

Kick off summer with a cruisy afternoon in the gardens of Caves House at Yalls Summer Fest. A full festival awaits ticket holders at the Yallingup home of live music, with a line up filled with local acts such as Blue Child Collective and Valentine, as well as national guests such as The Jungle Giants and the Holy Holy Clews. It’s going to be a cracking afternoon kicking on into a beat fuelled evening under the stars.

Yallingup Malibu Classic 2018 | 1-2 December

The annual Yallingup Malibu Classic surfing competition hits Yallingup again this Summer. A home-grown event, the local surf crew first held the comp back in 1985 and it has since grown to one of the premier longboarding competitions on the surf calendar. After a day in the sun and surf there is nothing like an ice-cold beer down the road with the longboard royalty!

IRONMAN Busselton | 1-2 December

Busselton

This year sees three events for fitness fanatics to get excited about. Ironman 70.3 Western Australia will be staged on the Saturday with a pontoon start at the end of the jetty. Sunday sees IRONKIDS Busselton kick off for little legs – a chance for all the family to get involved! Earlier in the morning the pros will get their race started; the race is one of the flattest in the world so now is your chance to catch the competitors attempting some epic personal bests!

Cape Nat Star Gazing Night | 1 December

Starry eyed dreamers, this one is for you! Bring the kids along to Cape Nat Star Gazing Night for an evening of wonder. The team from Cape Naturalist and Bunbury Observatory will be getting out the giant telescopes, but be sure to remember your binoculars for the chance to catch all of the out-of-this-world action.

There are so many events to choose from for the first weekend of Summer! Always one of the most popular, Howard Parks brings back Bubbles and Blooms this year with an outdoor sparkling, food and flower market. Take your pick from a host of foodie delights alongside 5 different types of sparkling wine and champagne on offer at the alfresco bar. Live music completes the picturesque scene, filled with blooms to purchase or to simply brighten eyes on the day.

Laze on the Lawn & Underground Cellar Sale | 1 December

Wine lovers, this is your once- a-year chance to delve into their cellar and stock up on some bargains. Cape Lodge Art Escape | 1 – 2 December

Arty types, prick up your ears. Local artist and experienced teacher Fi Wilkie will be running two workshops over the Cape Lodge Art Escape weekend. Wine and cheese, paintbrushes and natures inspiration, plus an optional gourmet Sunday morning breakfast. Sounds like the recipe for creative genius!

Cooking Classes at Wildwood Valley | 5 and 12 December

Fervor Book Launch At Riversmith | 7 December

Paul Iskov’s highly anticipated book, Fervor, is out this month and you’re invited to the official launch. Hosted by acclaimed food writer Max Veenhuyzen, the launch will celebrate this hugely relevant and beautifully produced book which shares Fervor’s passion for native ingredients, sustainable cooking (and eating) and the Aboriginal cultures of Western Australia. This is a free event, but RSVP’s are essential!

Christmas Carols in The Park | 7 December

Holidaymakers, never fear – there are still several options for Xmas lunch down in the region. Pullman Bunker Bay has to be one of the most stunning views to gaze at whilst chowing down on a decadent Xmas buffet. For something a little more casual, the Dunsborough Tavern in Dunsborough, The Ship Inn in Busselton and The Willow Grill in Margaret River all have a Xmas lunch buffet spread. Abbey Beach Resort also have a buffet for lunch, or let the team at the luxurious Cape Lodge wine you and dine you with a 6 course degustation.

New Year’s Eve | 31 December

If there is one night of the year where you can let your hair down it’s the 31st December. Take your pick from events throughout the region to ring in the new year. Yallingup has a massive party with Caves House hosting their famed NYE party. Live music and DJs keep things pumping until the early hours – Asta is headlining the night for 2018. The Beerfarm also has an epic night planned with their ‘Are We There Yet?’ NYE party in Metricup. Busselton crew can get their Tropicana on at The Firestation’s Tropical Disco, whilst Margies will be getting the dance floor happening at The River’s NYE party. Make sure you have the hair crimpers out…dress up to your heart’s desire and win prizes at Settlers Tavern’s ‘Back to the 80’s’ themed NYE party. Live music and a DJ will be pumping out those tunes all night to take you back to the good ol’ days. Prefer to sup than sway? Pullman Bunker Bay have a 5 course degustation on offer, or down in Margaret River get along to the Morries Speakeasy. Finally, Leeuwin Estate’s combination of degustation dining, fine wines and live jazz is one to dress up for.

The festive season is a popular time for visitors to the Margaret River region, so things tend to book out quickly. Now that you know what you’ll be doing, be sure to book your stay ASAP.
