We are well and truly into beautiful spring in the Margaret River region and you know what that means: it’s time for a quick getaway, and we’ve got just the ticket. From incredible food and wine events to outdoor adventure and art retreats, there’s no shortage of reasons to schedule in a spring break in this glorious corner of the world this month.
While the Cape to Cape MTB happening later this month is one of the biggest events on the region’s calendar, it’s not just the major events that are worth travelling for. Once you’re here, there’s a whole host of community events and well-kept secrets to uncover too. Whether it’s catching some live music from amazing local artists, learning how to shuck oysters with one of the region’s most prevalent chefs, or discovering the private gardens of one of the region’s most iconic wineries, you might find yourself so busy you end up staying ’til summer.
Live Music at Caves Road Collective | Every Sunday in October
Celebrate the launch of Caves Road Collective, home of Black Brewing Co., Dune Distilling and Ground to Cloud Winery, with live tunes every Sunday throughout October! Enjoy that spring weather with a beer out on the deck or a long-table lunch in the restaurant, along with live music from 2pm. Plus, nab a free kids meal with every adult meal ordered! The month’s lineup includes Kiki & Co, Emjay Angeni, Dallas Royal and the beautiful Valentine wrapping things up on Sunday, 28th October.
Open Garden Fundraiser at Fraser Gallop | Sunday 6 October
For the first time, Dorothy Gallop is opening her private gardens at Fraser Gallop Estate to the public – all in the name of raising funds to support Margaret River Senior High School students Lily Martin & Jessica Ridley make their way to the 2018 Marcus Oldham National Interschool Equestrian Championship held in Victoria. Tickets into these iconic gardens are only $30 and will also get you a complimentary glass of vino on arrival, and some light eats.
Art Escape at Cape Lodge | 6 – 7 October
Schedule yourself in a little spring break in the Margaret River region with this Art Escape at Cape Lodge. Encompassing two diverse half-day art workshops over the weekend (ft. wine, obviously), the escape is the perfect opportunity to relax in the luxurious surrounds of Cape Lodge, enjoy gourmet food and get your creative juices flowing all at the same time. That’s what spring is made of!
Women’s Adventure Film Tour at Orana Cinemas | 9 October
Following last year’s success, the Women’s Adventure Film Tour is back and it’s coming to Busselton for the first time! The screening will feature an all new set of adrenaline-pumping short films that capture a whole host of inspirational adventurous women. Get the heart racing for spring!
Fraser Gallop Wine Dinner at Yarri | 10 October
Join Fraser Gallop Estate as they talk you through their wines over a 5 course dinner from Chef Aaron Carr at one of the region’s foremost restaurants, Yarri. The first in a series of dinners over spring, this Wine Dinner is sure to sell out so make sure you lock yourself in a spot!
Cooking School at Rustico | 12 October
Head on an international foodie adventure this October by joining Rustico Head Chef Mike McAlister as he demonstrates how to create some delicious Rustico-inspired dishes. Over 2.5hours at Rustico Cooking School, he’ll have you cooking, learning and – of course – feasting, as you learn how to shuck oysters, craft scallop ceviche, perfect your pork crackle and whip up paella that tastes straight out of Spain. All with a few vinos along the way, of course.
Cape to Cape MTB Urban Time Trial At Margaret River Skate Park | 19 October
Catch some of the best bmx/biker talent going around at the Urban Time Trial as they battle it out for all-important time bonus prior to the Cape to Cape MTB later in October. Set on an all-new hot track at the Margaret River skate park, there’ll also be bonus local skaters carving it up in the centre bowl, a DJ spinning some rocking beats and food trucks ready to satisfy your hunger.
Sweet Wine Symposium at Happs Wines | 20 & 21 October
It may be difficult to believe but sweet wines used to rule the wine world – and Happs Wines haven’t forgotten! Join them as they stage a delicious ode to sweet wines at this Sweet Wine Symposium, complete with tastings, masterclasses, and a long-table, sweet-wine paired lunch!
Yum Cha at Vasse Felix | 21 October
The perfect Sunday indulgence for spring! Revel in the delights of Yum Cha in the stunning Vasse Felix Art Gallery with ten delicious dishes created by Head Chef Brendan Pratt and the team, accompanied by Vasse Felix wines. Guests will be seated in tables of ten, but you can request to sit with your friends if you’re coming in convoy! Bookings are essential.
Cape to Cape MTB | 18 – 21 October
2018 marks over ten years of the Cape to Cape MTB, the iconic riding experience that includes access to stunning private trails, vineyard visits, brewery finishes and some of the warmest hospitality the region has to offer. Starting at Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse in Augusta, and finishing four days later at the famous Colonial Brewery in Margaret River, the course makes its way through a network of trails along the coast, through National Parks, forest, farm lands, mountain bike parks, and bush. Oh, and it’s not too late to register!
Flametree Wine Dinner at Yarri | 24 October
Two Yarri wine dinners in one month – that’s what we call a jackpot. At this one, join Flametree Wines as they talk you through their wines alongside a five course dinner from Chef Aaron Carr. It’ll be another sell out, so be sure to book yourself in – you don’t want to miss this one!
Dunsborough Song Fest | 26 – 28 October
A festival of song with community singing at its very heart, the Dunsborough Song Fest is a weekend full of incredible performances from local artists at venues across the region. Headlining groups include the Sweet Adelines Australia 2018 National Champions ‘A Capella West’, along with performances from the WAAPA choir ‘Eneksis’ and a bundle of local choirs!
