Wine voices: Steve Martin, Viticulturist, Stella Bella

“I really enjoy gardening and that’s what this is, on a grand scale.

I cut my teeth at Leeuwin Estate working with John Brocksopp who’s been in the industry for a very long time; just Leeuwin’s second Viticulturist. Then David Winstanley, the current Viticulturist over there. All that knowledge that has been passed to me certainly moulded how I work and it’s all based on knowledge that has been gathered through the region over time. You pick things up and make mistakes and learn. It’s important that knowledge is passed on. The people I’m working with now soak it up and take it with them.”
