Movies under the stars

Summer wouldn’t be summer without being able to lie back under the stars to watch a movie with a glass of wine. It seems that we can’t get enough of the outdoor movie scene in Your Margaret River Region – what began as the territory of flagship winery Cape Mentelle in Margaret River has now spread across the region, with screenings taking place in Busselton, Dunsborough and Yallingup.

Read on for all you need to know about this summer’s outdoor cinema sessions.

Outdoor movie locations – Busselton, Dunsborough, Yallingup & Margaret River

Cape Mentelle, Margaret River

Cape Mentelle is a stunning winery by day, outdoor cinema by night. They pioneered the outdoor cinema in the region and screen movies daily (except Mondays), from December 15 until January 29, and then on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from February 2 until April 2. There’s also live music on Friday nights.
Bring your own picnic (no BYO alcohol), picnic rug or low level chair or hire one of their bean bags. The Margaret River Burger Co. will be onsite cooking beef, chicken, and vegie burgers to order as well as smaller sizes for kids. There’s also a snack bar with popcorn and chocolate. Purchase a bottle of Cape Mentelle’s fine wine and enjoy.
There are different ticket packages available from general admission to cheese, charcuterie and wine packages with beanbags and blankets as well as gift vouchers.
Tickets are available to purchase via Cape Mentelle and your local visitor centre.

Dates: The Movies at Cape Mentelle season will kick off on 15 December 2017 and will run until 2 April 2018.
Prices: Concession/children $14.90, Adults $21.10, Bean bed hire $9.15.

Courtyard Cinema, ArtGeo, Busselton

The Summer Series at ArtGeo – Courtyard Cinema will commence on December 16 and run through each Saturday until February 10.
Expect to see fun family friendly movies plus a few Australian films that were screened at this year’s CinefestOZ Festival, as well as comedy shorts from The Over the Fence Comedy Film Festival.
You can bring your own blankets and concert chairs or hire a bean bag. There’s a pizza, popcorn and candy bar, and beer and wine are available for purchase, no BYO permitted.

Dates: 16 Dec, 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th January, 3rd, 10th February.
Prices: Kids $10, Adults $15, Family (2 adults and 2 children) $40

Caves House Hotel, Yallingup

The relaxed vibe, the lush lawns and pretty gardens at Caves House create a wonderful setting for outdoor movies. Movies are shown on Tuesday and Thursday nights. The bistro and pizza shack offer a choice of food from snacks to full meals. Grab a few coldies, a bottle or your favourite mixed drink from the bar inside the historic heritage-listed hotel and settle in. Bring your own picnic blanket and snacks are permitted. No BYO alcohol.

Dates: 12th, 14th, 19th, 21st, 26th, 28th December.
Prices: Children under 5 Free; Children aged 5–15 $10; Adults $17; Family Ticket (2 adults, 2 kids) $50

Happs Wines, Dunsborough

Happs Estate won’t be running their outdoor cinema this year, instead they have Happenstance Sundays, 2pm to 5pm every Sunday (except Christmas and NYE) until the end of January, a Sunday session with music, food vans and games. More information.
