Towering karri trees, some over 60m in height, undulate across the valley. With sunlight streaming onto their smooth trunks, this is one of the best sights in the Margaret River Region.
The sight of these enormous trees won’t be the only thing to amaze you. This forest is a feast for the senses with the forest floor tumbling with wildflowers, orchids and funghi (in season) together with the sounds of native birds and the fresh smell of eucalypt.

The forest is an easy 25-minute drive south of Margaret River town along Caves Road. The Karri Lookout on the eastern side of Caves Road is an ideal spot to enjoy and photograph this amazing forest as it undulates across the valley. Boranup Drive is a fantastic tourist drive. With its hard limestone base, it is suitable for two-wheel drive vehicles. The drive winds its way through stunning forest and loops back to Caves Road.

Along the drive you’ll find the Boranup Lookout which takes in views across the picturesque forest and the stunning turquoise waters of nearby Hamelin Bay. The lookout also marks the start of some lovely bushwalks and has a great picnic spot.

A small campground fitting only seven small tents or small campervans is also available.

For the bird enthusiasts! On your drive or walk through you may see Purple- crowned Lorikeet, Splendid Fairy- wren, White- breasted Robin, Crested Strike-tit, Golden Whistler and many other birds.

The best things in life are free, which holds true for this iconic Western Australian tourist attraction. Here you can soak in the beauty of this ancient Karri forest and marvel at the majesty of Mother Nature. There is no entrance fee, no souvenir shop, nothing commercial. Just a chance to take a photo of something very special. Take care when approaching on Caves Road, as the site gets busy with people, often standing on the road or very close to it, taking photos. There is a small clearing on the left for parking when approaching from the north, but it is not immediately visible because of the winding road. It is often busy, and often difficult to get a photograph or video of this attraction without cars or people in it. Take care when crossing Caves Road and listen for approaching vehicles. Daylight-hours-is recommended. There are a few unsealed tracks leading west into the forest to explore. These tracks are sometimes very narrow and muddy and should be used with caution. Stay on the tracks and use navigation aids to ensure you can find your way. Continue south on Caves Road to Augusta or north to explore the caves, Witchcliffe and Margaret River. Roads leading east will usually take you back to Bussel Highway. The area is within easy reach by car of Busselton, Dunsborough, Cowaramup, Margaret River or Augusta. Please leave this beautiful site the way you found it.

Was attracted by their review of tall trees. Took a leisurely drive from Margaret River City center. It was just by the roadside, but there is a parking space to park the car. On both sides of the road are view of the tall trees. Did not ventured into the first as the shoes we write are not suitable for the trekking.

Boranup Forest Viewpoint is such a magical place — perfect for a peaceful forest bath. I came here twice early in the morning and it was just perfect. The tall karri trees, soft morning light, and fresh air made it feel so calming and grounding. Hardly anyone around at that time, so it’s super quiet and serene. If you love nature and need a moment to reset, this is the spot :)

One of my favourite places in Margaret River. I've been here many times with my girlfriend and for work. I'm a photographer and taken a few couples here specifically as I think this is one of WA iconic locations. It's usually pretty quiet too and the only thing to remember is poor phone reception. There's a 2 W Boranup Forest Drive a few km down the road and it's a pretty epic spot too.
