Description

An Exhibition by Victoria Robertson
19 February – 16 March. Mon-Fri. 10am-4pm

Born and raised in Amsterdam during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s within a highly artistic family, Victoria Robertson now lives and works in the beautiful Southwest of Western Australia. Blessed with creative genes inherited from her Dutch graphic designer father and her Australian illustrator and artist mother, she has been making art for as long as she can remember.

In this exhibition, Robertson highlights moments, events, and periods of time that have left a deep impression on her and have shaped who she is today. Having recently been diagnosed with ASD, she looks back on her extraordinary and fairly eccentric childhood and beyond, recognising how autism influenced her experiences. She has also come to realise that her entire family of origin was living on the spectrum.

It is often only in hindsight that meaning can be found in the path life has taken. Through the creation of these miniature settings, Robertson seeks to bring order to her life experiences and memories, and to better understand her underlying drive. The contrasts in mood across the works reflect her bipolarity, providing stark counterpoints that have significantly influenced her life.

She hopes that viewers of her work will find elements that resonate with them and encourage reflection on their own life journeys.
