Wooditchup Bilya Wongi | Margaret River Talking Land Art Trail

Experience the Wooditchup Bilya Wongi – Margaret River Talking Land Art Trail, an immersive community art trail celebrating the cultural, ecological and spiritual significance of Wooditchup Bilya (the Margaret River).

A short loop of the River Trail, beginning and ending at the Old Settlement, will be transformed by ephemeral artworks created by Wardandi cultural custodians, local and internationally acclaimed artists, school groups and community members. Guided by Wardandi Elders Nan Vivian Brockman Webb and Mitchella Hutchins, alongside internationally recognised land artist Elaine Clocherty, the trail honours Wooditchup Bilya as a living entity central to wellbeing, identity and connection to Country.

This free, family-friendly launch event invites the community to take part in the day’s program. From 10am, join artists along the trail to help create a collaborative land artwork. From 1pm, local environmental organisations will host stalls, and the trail will be open for self-guided exploration. At 2pm, Nan and Mitchella will offer a Welcome to Country and cultural yarn, followed by short talks from 3pm exploring river ecology, stewardship and community action.

The trail also features works by community weaver Cynamon Aeria and land artists Kyllie Deltondo and Mick Hart, whose installations reflect river biodiversity, texture and shared care for place. Artists will begin creating works throughout the month leading up to the launch. Visitors are welcome to observe respectfully and join in where invited, recognising the temporary and culturally informed nature of the artworks.

As this is a culturally and environmentally sensitive place, visitors are asked to walk respectfully, keep dogs on leads, stay on paths, avoid touching artworks unless invited, and engage with care and curiosity.
