More information

Blackwood River Houseboats is a floating, glamping, outdoor adventuring experience for couples, friend groups, special occasions and the whole family with a hot shower, galley kitchen, bbq & comfy beds at the end of the day.

Departing from secluded West Bay, the houseboats travel through Hardy Inlet to explore the picturesque lower Blackwood. Along the way are bush walks, fishing spots, a bird sanctuary, unique wildflowers, wild river dolphins, uber-private Molloy Island, secret kayaking spots and over 25 kms of National Park protected by a river reserve.

Your cruise will take you on a round trip to historic Alexandra Bridge and return. Base has loads of free, secure parking for cars, boats & caravans so you have peace of mind up the river. You can add a winery tour or other sightseeing from your floating apartment. Or have all your supplies delivered near mooring 6 and avoid the hassel.

All our operations, vessels, moorings and Base are designed with the lightest possible footprint. Houseboat Base has been off grid for 19 years. We generate our own solar power and harvest our own rainwater. Anchors are not used for mooring up. The swing moorings mean there's no damage to the river banks or river bed and other river craft use them so its less impact all round! Our vessels create little wake, they are fully sealed and we have a strict "All Decks. Nothing Overboard" policy.

We supply the fully self contained houseboat with all your linen and a motorised dinghy. You supply all food, drinks and fishing gear. We have kayaks and stand up paddle boards for guests use.

We just returned from an amazing 3 nights on board Allira. The facilities on board were adequate for the 6 of us with a well equipped kitchen. The beds were comfortable with plenty of bedding to keep us warm. Waking up in the morning in the middle of the Blackwood River is something everyone should do - simply breath-taking. Pam and James were excellent! 5 star service! Thank You!

We had a 3 night stay on Storm in July this year. It was a lovely peaceful venture. We even had a storm one day, but the river is so sheltered that the boat remained calm throughout . If you are looking for a different type of holiday then try a houseboat. It was certainly worth the venture. Managed to get plenty of walks through the bush and even had a chauffeur driven trip to a winery for lunch. We would definitely do this again and recommend it to anyone. Thanks Blackwood River Houseboats.

Many thanks Pam and James - all five of us used the same description which is "Well, that was brilliant." We are hoping to make it an annual event. You were helpful from first contact and on arrival we were met with your professional but friendly manner. The houseboat was clean and nicely presented and fully equipped and it was great having both inside and outdoor cooking choice. I usually do as little as necessary when it comes to meals but it was a pleasure cooking outdoors for four hungry men with the million dollar view that I had. Even the last day with weather overcast and windy, it didn't come near to dampening our enthusiasm. Warm as toast indoors, meals were cooked in the full size stove and we continued to enjoy the scenery through the large viewing windows. We all had a wonderful time and on behalf of Dennis, Carl, Troy and Tim I thank you, Trish Haley.
