More information

Cape Mentelle, established in 1970, is one of the founding wineries of Margaret River. While pioneering many of the region’s renowned wine styles, Cape Mentelle also consistently serves as a benchmark for the quality of Margaret River wines. Accolades including consecutive wins of Australia’s most prestigious wine trophy, the Jimmy Watson, with the iconic Cabernet Sauvignon in 1983 and 1984, helped put Margaret River on the international wine map. Today, our tradition of pioneering spirit and uncompromising commitment to excellence is being upheld by our talented and innovative young team.

As a guest at Cape Mentelle, you can be assured that we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. Our 200 hectares of estate vineyards are managed with a sustainable viticulture philosophy, meaning as close to organic as possible. This philosophy extends through the winery and waste management practices.

Our warm and friendly Cellar Door staff welcome guests 7 days a week from 10:00 to 5:00. Visitors are encouraged to taste through our range of available wines, including museum stock and cellar door exclusives. After some tasting, relax in our native bushland gardens or play a game of Pétanque (a version of boules) with family and friends on our purpose built court. If an interest in wine motivates your visit to Margaret River, or develops once you’re here, join one of our exclusive ‘Behind the Scenes’ Vineyard & Winery Tours or ‘Behind the Scenes’ Degustation Tour and Tasting for an in-depth and informative look at the winemaking process from vine to glass.

We did a wine tasting here and really enjoyed the education on wine. The lovely lady behind the counter was full of knowledge and took the time to help us understand wine.

I visited CM on my first day in Margaret River. .. so impressed with the wines i had to go back today, after many others, to confirm my initial impressions. The wines on offer are the best in the region that I've tasted. There wasn't one which was short of excellent. Cellar door staff were clearly passionate and well informed about wine - not just theirs. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Don't be put off by their huge corporate ownership. ... this is a great winery with exceptional wines. Highly recommended. Simon, New Zealand.

There is a long wine list to try. Tastings are $10 each and can be put towards the purchase of a bottle of wine (can only use one tasting cost per bottle). The main critique we had was the wait between each wine on the tasting menu. There was one staff member trying to help us and another larger group. He did his best but it's a popular winery and they needed a second person some times. One of the older wineries in the Margaret River region. There is a really interesting room at the cellar door to explore the history of the vineyard.
