Viewing fossils in mammoth Cave Credit Rachel Claire

Our region is brimming with stories.

And we should know! Through our online platform margaretriver.com, and twice yearly publication Tales & Trails, we are dedicated to documenting the fascinating, the innovative, and the lesser-known stories about this special place and the people who live here. The region provides rich inspiration, with over 60,000 years of cultural heritage; rare and breath-taking natural attractions and over 650 member businesses.

We distribute a solid amount of quality content, which brings over 3 million visitors to our website per year, a combined audience of over 100k on social media and a recent publication award for the Mumbrella Travel Marketing Awards Travel Publication of the Year.

Submissions

We are currently taking submissions of written work including feature articles, profiles about curious characters, food or wine stories, and nature articles with a distinctly Margaret River Region focus.

We also support two photo-essays per year if you are a photographer with work you would like featured.

What we’re looking for:

Generally, we like to provide a mix of both educational / practical visitor information, combined with feature pieces that offer more aspirational storytelling. We aim to publish:

  • Stories about our natural world. Endemic species, our forests, coastlines, wildflowers and whales. The things that make us grateful to visit.
  • People-profiles. It might be an artist, a chef, or someone with a creative quirk and generous spirit who represents a part of the regional community.
  • A photo-essay. A series of images that fit within a theme that speak of the region.
  • Stories that are centred around the anchor towns and sub-towns including; Busselton, Margaret River, Dunsborough, Augusta, Cowaramup/Gracetown, Yallingup, Witchcliffe, Rosa Brook/Rosa Glen and Vasse. These articles might be practical such as ‘Top 10 Breakfasts’ or more aspirational, highlighting a new business or iconic location.
  • Wadandi content. These submissions will be assessed by the Undalup Association.

We will accept pre-written articles from 500-1000 words as submissions, or ideas for content with examples of previously published work. Photographers can submit a series of images that fit within a theme for a photo essay.
