Description

The beautiful landscapes of Suey McEnnally entice with a richness of texture, line and mood.

Mastering the luxurious medium of oil pastel, she covers the picture plane with sweeping gesture – building up layers and delineating space as she creates enormous energy across the surface. Deep Prussian blues, opalescent whites and turner golds are hand created with pigment mixed with mica and temper. Whilst her Australian flowering deserts twinkle like stars in the desert sky, the strength of her line recalls Japanese calligraphy and woodblock print.

McEnnally’s work has been hung in the Art Gallery of New South Wales as a finalist in the 2005 Dobell Prize for Drawing. A previous finalist in the Sulman Prize, AGNSW, Paddington Art Prize, and winner Eco Art Award 2002 and Peoples choice. In the Redlands Westpac Art Prize 2004 (an invitation only competition) Suey won the Peoples Choice and Highly Commended sections for emerging artists. Suey is becoming widely recognized as one of this country’s leading contemporary landscape artists.
