In Shelter’s corner of the coastline, you can expect calm blue water, rows of giant pine trees, the iconic Busselton Jetty and good, sessionable beer.
Co-Founder, Jason Credaro explains their ethos as keeping things crisp, clean and adventurous. “We make core beers you can keep coming back to, beers for everyday drinking. Then we love getting creative with our seasonal beers”.
A play on the popular West Coast IPA style, Shelter’s latest release for spring is their moreish and punchy Left Coast IPA. Paired perfectly with a wood fired pizza or bratwurst sub from the kitchen.
Their beer is poured straight from the giant serving tanks behind the bar and their beer hall has various function spaces that suit all events, from small get-togethers to big affairs.
Rocky Ridge is on a mission to be the most sustainable brewery in Australia, aiming to be at Net Zero emissions as early as 2025. Their brewery operations are 100% off the grid, powered by the sun. Their love for sustainability shines through in everything the team does, including their Busselton Taphouse, which is their converted 1930s family home.
The taphouse is warm, welcoming and boasts the most eclectic craft beers in the region, pouring 25 rotating taps. The local’s go-to? Jindong Juicy. A juicy pale loaded with tropical fruit flavour.
Visit over the weekend and you’ll likely catch live music on the deck. The taphouse is dog friendly too – there’s plenty of space in the beer garden to bring your furry friend.
Eagle Bay Brewing Co offers sweeping, uninterrupted views over Cape Naturaliste, from their brewpub and garden bar out to the glimmering Indian Ocean.
The brewery was established in 2010 by third generation farming siblings, with a passion for using local ingredients wherever possible. Since day one, Co-Founder Edge d’Espeissis has lived by the ethos of fresh is best. “We have 5 rain water tanks on site that we use to harvest water for all our beers. Our food is focused on wholesome staples that use seasonal ingredients, as well as classic Aussie dishes like Fish and Chips. We harvest as much as we can from our organic veggie garden and orchard”.
They also produce a range of Eagle Bay Vineyard wines, using grapes from their two vineyards onsite.
BYO picnic blanket for late afternoon lawn hangs during Summer. There’s plenty of space for the kids to cause a ruckus in the huge pirate ship playground, while the adults can kick back and sip on the new West Coast Pilsner.
Wild Hop opened their doors in 2019 and soon became known for producing some of the best beers in the region, particularly anything of the Hazy IPA style. Their family style menu is designed to be shared and rotates frequently, while still featuring a variety of elevated staples. Think rotisserie chooks cooked over flames, tomahawk stakes, beer battered pickles, and hearty salads that change with the seasonal veg from their garden.
The nature play inspired playground will guarantee that any kids are kept well occupied, and the welcome all dogs on leads.
Pop in Monday – Friday for their ‘Hoppy Hour’ from 3:30-4:30pm and you’ll get 25% off all Wildhop beers, including takeaways. They don’t package any of their brews, so make sure to BYO growler or purchase one there.
Last but not least, be sure to arrange for a designated driver, or book a chaffeur or guided tour, so everyone in the group can fully enjoy the day.
The Bay Trail has been made possible by the South West Brewers Alliance with support from the City of Busselton.
If you thought this was it, think again! The Margaret River Region is packed with plenty more breweries waiting to be explored along The Cave Trail.
