Located at the top of Margaret River's main street in a newly transformed space, de’sendent is a new intimate refined dining restaurant which opened its doors in January 2024. Owners Ann Spencer and Executive Chef Evan Hayter are behind the project, which is the next incarnation of their previous winery venture Arimia Estate, but distinctly different.
The new 35-seat restaurant was born from the passion and vision behind Arimia Estate, which built a strong reputation for its unwavering dedication to growing and sourcing high-quality, local, organic produce from suppliers who cared deeply for the land. Chef Evan Hayter is deeply passionate about where his ingredients come from - how they’re grown and reared, and ensuring they’re sourced from like-minded producers who share Arimia's values. de’sendent is the evolution of an important story, and represents Evan and Ann's determination to share their dining philosophy with the world. Guests can expect high-end West Australian ingredients including abalone, full-blooded Waygu beef, marron and uni (sea urchin), sourced from passionate, small-batch suppliers. A diverse wine list showcases premium local, national and global wines that complement the calibre of the food. The name de’sendent signifies the cultivation of a new culinary chapter for business partners Hayter and Spencer, as well as treasured family ties.

Can’t recommend this place highly enough. The region is blessed with incredible produce and the chef certainly makes them sing here. Service was warm and friendly with each dish having a story of where the ingredients had come from. Wine pairing is good too with some wineries we’d never heard of and they matched the food well. The two dessert courses weren’t for our palette, or perhaps we were just very full by then. We will be back for sure on our next visit

Hidden gem! Minimal but warm dining room, which felt great. It was a nice touch having chefs deliver food to the tables and being able to see all the prep over the open kitchen! The wine list is short, though succinct, and the recommendation by Euwen was spot on! Some dishes were pushing the envelope, though in a really well executed way. Highly recommend!

Our visit was on the 6th of September, a little on the quieter side for a holiday through the Margaret River region. A great addition to the fine dining scene in Margaret River. The chef, Evan, is on to something with an impressive tasting menu, interesting ideas and a respect for the local produce. The 5 wine pairings were on point and the atmosphere when we went was nice and relaxed. The service was homely and friendly, but also with a high level of attentiveness, and it didn't feel like they rushed you through the dinner, giving us some space between the courses. Our water glasses were never left empty for more than a moment, and the chefs were kind enough to present some of the dishes themselves, it is always a pleasure to see the ones preparing the food also present them, contrary to many restaurants where the chefs can sometimes be faceless ghosts behind a kitchen door. Though we never got to try its predecessor, I do think the current incarnation of De'sendent is doing many things great, and I am sure they will keep pushing the boundaries of great food for the whole region. We had a lovely time and I hope they will keep offering the same level of care as they inevitably get more and more popular. We will certainly stop by again on our next trip to Margaret River.

We were so very impressed with everything about De’scendant. The subtly lit minimalist space brings focus to the food which is served on lovely handmade plates. Service is warm and welcoming and the interesting wine pairing selections impeccable. Every dish was a winner but we particularly enjoyed the abalone, crab on charcoal brioche, the marron and the bone marrow mash. We look forward to our next visit.
