The one-of-a-kind Strings Attached Guitar Festival will return to Margaret River in 2022, with another exceptional line-up announced for the October 7 – 9 event. Big names including Jeff Lang, Felicity Urquhart, and Josh Cunningham will headline this year’s festival.

Strings Attached WA Guitar Festival

The festival is the only one of its kind in Western Australia, and features specialist workshops and vintage instrument collections alongside live music performances.

Events will be hosted at different venues around the Margaret River township, with a central hub at the Margaret River HEART. Festival Director Dan White says the multi-venue structure means that at any time patrons can find an act or exhibition that matches their particular taste, while celebrating the multitude of sub-cultures and genres within the guitar community.

“We’ve got lots of things happening at the same time, performances and exhibitions.  So there’s lots of different options for people to check different events out.  If one is not their cup of tea there is guaranteed to be something else on at the same time.”

The vibrations that can be made from a guitar are so wide-ranging and varied, and this festival brings all of those sounds and the cultures that have evolved about them together under the one banner, says Dan.

This year’s schedule features a buffet of different music genres, including metal, blues, folk, indie, jazz, classical, and many other things stringed.

“There are so many different sides to the one instrument, it’s the most played instrument in the world.  Because of that there are so many different ways in which the guitar is played.  There is heavy music, classical, indie, world fusion, jazz, folk, country, rock-a-billy.  It’s pretty endless.

“It’s nice to see people in the one place celebrating all the many different aspects of that instrument.”

There will be over 40 workshops, masterclasses and panel Q&A sessions over the weekend, diving into a wide range of topics for people to immerse themselves in. Check out “Finding Your Sound” with Golden Guitar and ARIA Award winning artists Felicity Urquhart & Josh Cunningham, “Everything Slide Guitar” with Grammy Award winner Lucky Oceans + guests, “How Acoustic Guitars Work” with Margaret River’s own Scott Wise plus youth sessions including Live Loop Jams, Songwriting and more.
