Meet local Wadandi Bibbulmun Elder Cindy Gray, who has shared some of her favourite places in the Margaret River Region with us.
Cindy Gray is a Wadandi Bibbulmun Elder and long-time local.
Her connection to Boodja goes back generations and she is a valued member of the Undalup Association, who make meaningful contributions to her land.
Cindy took five to answer some local favourites questions.
I’ve lived in the region for 20 or 30 years. My great great grandfather is originally from here (he died in Bunbury in 1905). He got married in 1880 to an Aboriginal girl called Elizabeth Dawson – who was born in Busselton. My great grandfather was born in Busselton so I am from Wadandi Boodja going back a few generations.
The most important thing to me is family. I’m married with 7 children and have always loved living here with my family.
Meelup beach and Margaret River rivermouth are my favourites. They are both kid-friendly and have good facilities. I usually celebrate special occasions with family at these spots or anywhere near the seaside where it’s safe for kids.
Albies Bar and Bistro in Busselton, Blue Ocean Fish and Chips in Augusta (these are the best in the South West), and Settler’s Tavern in Margaret River.
Visit the beach at Margaret River rivermouth, walk the bush trails and bike paths, and have a barbeque with friends and family.
