Held Ground – Opening of Solo Exhibition by Jo Darvall
Description
Artist Jo Darvall presents Held Ground, a solo exhibition inspired by time spent walking and returning to the landscapes of Wadandi Boodja in the Margaret River Region.
Through layered printmaking and drawing, Darvall reflects on the rhythms of Country — cycles of endurance, regeneration and memory held within the land.
Central to the work is the Balga (grass tree), a powerful symbol of resilience and renewal that continues to grow and regenerate after fire. The exhibition invites visitors to experience the landscape not simply as scenery, but as a living presence shaped by time and continuity.
The artist acknowledges the Wadandi People of the Noongar nation, the traditional custodians of the Margaret River Region. She pays her respects to their Elders past and present, and honours their knowledge of Country — its cycles of growth, regeneration, and resilience — which inform and inspire this work.
