Winter is all about slow meals, warm drinks, and cosy corners with crackling fireplaces.

The Margaret River Region is where growers, winemakers and brewers obsess over provenance and craftsmanship.

The same consideration is now being kneaded into dough, built into fires, and scattered through toppings. From north to south, here’s the region’s most memorable Italian-style pizzas worth seeking out.

Shelter Brewing Co.

Busselton

Next to the iconic Busselton Jetty, Shelter Brewing Co. is all about good times by the bay. The heroes of the open kitchen are a bright yellow Marana Forni oven imported from Italy, and the bags of Caputo Saccorosso Tipo ‘00’ flour, clear signs they take pizza seriously. Their bases are the perfect balance between soft and crispy, with toppings that showcase fresh local ingredients – there’s even gluten-free bases on offer. Paired best with one of Shelter’s crisp lagers or hop-forward pale ales.

Lentedal Winery & Wood Fired Pizza

Marybrook

Set among vines and wide-open paddocks, family-owned Lentedal Vineyard are serving woodfired pizzas crafted with the same care their hand-harvested wines receive. Using authentic Buvetti sourdough bases, creamy fior di latte and premium Mondo Doro meats, each pizza is finished in their Pavesi Twist oven – all the way from Modena- delivering that perfect woodfired char. Enjoy a tasting, then settle on the deck with a pizza while the kids meet the farm animals.
