An evening with feature artist Sarah Hewer at Voyager Estate

Sarah Hewer – Artist in Residence | Voyager Estate

calendar
Friday, 16th December 2022 - Monday, 30th January 2023

Description

Journey behind the lens as Voyager Estate welcomes renowned artist and photographer, Sarah Hewer, to take over the cellar door this summer.

Voyager Estate’s latest artist in residence, Sarah Hewer shares new pieces from her highly regarded photographic series ‘Found’ – a captivating body of work that encourages new ways of seeing the natural world and ourselves. Sarah’s mastery of light and lens transforms fragile and flawed specimens with intricate detail. Taking reference from age-old techniques of botanical preservation, decaying and fire-burnt leaves are suspended in time, elevated to a grandeur they don’t belong. In riveting detail, they stand strong, timeless and ethereal.

Artwork will be on display daily at the cellar door from Friday December 16 to Tuesday January 31.

On Thursday 12 January 2023, guests will have the opportunity to meet Sarah and delve into her practice, as they sip, savour and soak up a curated exhibition featuring iconic pieces and brand-new works. Tickets also include a glass of wine on arrival and a selection of delicious canapés from our team of culinary creatives.

About Sarah Hewer
Sarah Hewer is an artist based in Margaret River / Wadandi Boodja. Her mixed media and photographic practice traverses the complexity of mapping self, memory and perception; what it means to be human.

Intuitive in approach, her work is bound by vulnerability and a steadfast curiosity for light, dark and the shadows within. Her artistic practice is fuelled by a sensory connection to nature and self. It’s underpinned by technique and inquisitive sensibility garnered from over two decades in the visual arts. First as an editor of award-winning British and North American documentaries and later as a photographer for the likes of Delicious, National Geographic Traveller, The Weekend Australian Magazine and more.

Her art is held in private collections nationally and internationally.
