Duckhouse Sessions #4

The Duckhouse welcomes you for a unique live concert in a special venue located directly adjacent to the scenic Margaret River.

Enter at the beautiful gardens just near the road bridge at the bottom of town on the corner of Higgins Street and Bussell Hwy.

Duckhouse aims to be an inclusive, accessible space to experience skilled, genuine musicianship in an intimate and friendly sanctuary.

The musicians will be playing unplugged and will be amplified solely by means of a bespoke custom made Pianophone – a one of a kind design made here in Margs and has been created by modifying and restoring an old piano, setup to resonate with the notes and tones of the performers.

Btw – we have a wood fired heater in the space – don’t be afraid to poke your head out and warm your cockles with a cuppa and some mellow mingling in Winter.

“I’m originally from the North East of England and I moved to Australia in 2012. After living in Melbourne, Arnhem Land and northern NSW, I’ve called Margaret River home for the past five years. I’ve always enjoyed writing songs about people, places and the thoughts that seem to stick around. Thanks for letting me share some of them with you.”

Dear Maryann

Dear Maryann, are a Perth based indie/folk duo blending warm acoustic guitar with close vocal harmonies. Inspired by artists like Lizzy McAlpine and Searows, their sound sits in the space between modern indie/folk and heartfelt singer-songwriter storytelling. Fresh to the WA music scene, the pair met at university and bonded over their shared love for song writing in 2025. Dear Maryann takes their listeners on a journey through their experiences of love, growing up and life in all of its colours. Warm and intimate, genuine and vulnerable, you won’t want to miss their set.

Lindsay Baker

Lindsay Baker is a South West Western Australian musician known for a diverse, grassroots career spanning blues, roots and dance-oriented projects. As a core member of Howling Onshore, he has built a reputation for energetic live performances driven by vocals, harmonica and saxophone, blending traditional blues with jazz and R&B influences. Baker’s songwriting often reflects personal growth and social observation, with a focus on expressive, “from the heart” performance shaped by decades of experience. Alongside this, he has explored more experimental and groove-based projects such as Bunnyjuice, which fuses house and disco rhythms with live instrumentation. Across projects including House of Reeds, Baker’s work reflects a fluid approach to genre, rooted in live collaboration and the regional WA music scene, particularly around Margaret River.

Montego Ikarus

From acoustic originals in his teens, to electronic experimental while living on the streets of Australia, then over 7 years as an international street musician with jazzy/blues/rock and foot percussion – an unwilling coincidental dervish. Cue a sharp transition post-covid hysterical times to hosting and playing in world music multi-media collaborations featuring story-telling; and making instruments that focus on returning to true harmony – Monty resists the mould and finds innovative and creative ways to usurp the algorithm driven content culture of the vapid corpse of industry. Music for Monty is a glue that holds together the loose pieces of life and connects us; a lifeline for an otherwise private person; a solid means by which to regulate the nervous system and shout the hidden voices; both independently, and for community as a whole.

The sound vibrations from the musicians will be picked up by the piano strings of the Pianophone and the sympathetic resonance will then be what is heard, making for a really special experience for audience and musicians. People come to Duckhouse to be here to really experience and take in the moment, an ode to listening… real listening.

A portion of ticket sales go directly toward educating Dalit caste street children in Nepal, through an independent grass roots education initiative https://freedomthrougheducationnepal.com/ (RAWCS Project 82/2017-18) the remaining funds go direct to the musicians. There is also an ethically sourced Kathmandu market stall with genuine handmade incense, prayer flags, brass ornaments, jewellery and other handmade items – all proceeds from the sale of the market go directly towards educating the kids.

A side note: Duckhouse has made an active choice to not be present on social media. The intention for these events is to be present and attentive to the moment and we want to carry forward a culture of in person, grass roots connection in a world that is increasingly geared towards online content.
