Yes, the Margaret River region is scattered with fabulous fine dining and over 100 cellar doors to visit for a spot of wine tasting, but sometimes all you want to do is chill with the fam.
Enter: the brewery. You can happily come from the beach with thongs and shorts on, with the kids in tow and, at some joints, even pets can join. Most breweries in the region have an option for some nosh too – whether it’s just a bowl of chips to tide hungry bellies over until dinner, or a casual but quality bite for lunch.
These are the ultimate family friendly brewery picks. Not only is there plenty of good beer and space to stretch out at these wholesome venues, but they all have a playground so you can enjoy a pint or a glass of wine while busy bodies are occupied within view.

Family Friendly Breweries: Outdoor adventure for big (and little) kids at Cheeky Monkey Brewery
Cheeky Monkey Brewery
Perfect for those that like to be the first to try things, Cheeky Monkey might have been a mainstay on the brewery circuit for some time, but they hold claim to the newest and most adventurous playground on this list. Opening at their Caves Road brewery just in time for summer, the new playground is ripe for little explorers to get busy. There are plenty of climbing frames along with the piece de resistance: a high rope water crossing. Of course, there is also their fully fenced, brightly coloured playground to play on and fun activity packs for kids to keep busy with at the table – that’s on top of a solid list of brews and upscale brewpub fare to keep adults happy, too.
Colonial Brewing Co
A short drive from Margaret River, Colonial Brewing Co. sits out on Osmington Road amidst vineyards and lush green pastures. With one of the biggest playgrounds in the region, the kids will be kept busy while you kick back with a sample paddle of some craft brews and chew on their famed chicken wings and pizza. Kids are also well catered for, and if they fancy a run around there is a box full of balls and games to kick around with on the brewery’s expansive grounds.
Bootleg Brewery
One of the first breweries in the region, Bootleg Brewery is a favourite of many. Of course, they have a cracking craft beer selection and some serious pub grub, but they also have so much space for the kids to burn off energy while you relax. Having just come under new ownership, chances are you’ll be privy to some exciting changes as time goes on. For now though you can be assured that kids will fuel up with a menu full of the classics (mac ‘n’ cheese, anyone?), before they get to work on the playground nearby.

Family Friendly Breweries: Lots of open space for the children to run around at The Brewhouse Margaret River
Brewhouse Margaret River
Since its opening a few years back, Brewhouse very quickly earned its reputation as the kid friendly pick for a beer close to town. Just a short stroll from the centre of Margaret River, the kids menu is fresh and flavoursome and there is plenty of outdoor seating and grassy spots overlooking the playground. And what a playground it is. You’ll find it hard to pull them away from all the fun…in fact, that’s perfect timing for a second round, wouldn’t you say?
The Beerfarm
Kids big and small all point to one thing when they arrive in the warmer months at The Beerfarm. You can’t miss it: a giant waterslide into the dam. (Full disclosure: it’s only for the actual kids.) This venue is the definition of casual, and you’ll be welcome for a relaxed bevy and bite to eat along with the kids whether in Ugg Boots or a summer dress. Inside you’ve got pinball and pool tables, while outside sits the playground and the famous slip ‘n’ slide. A converted dairy farm, the kids will be entertained simply gazing at the cows down in the paddock. Extra points for the fact this whole farm runs on solar power!
Cowaramup Brewing Company
Tucked out in the undulating countryside of Cowaramup, this spot is perfect when you just want to get away from it all. A family owned microbrewery, Cowaramup Brewing Company brew up some fabulous craft ales from nine varieties of hops that grow on site. Adults can book a behind the scenes tour, while kids can settle in for a few hours in the playground, or kick a footy on the rolling grassy hillside. Of course, there’s plenty of food to munch on too, and you can take a growler home to continue the party once the kids go to bed.

Family Friendly Breweries: The Nature Playground at Wild Hop Brewing Co, Yallingup
Black Brewing Co. at Caves Road Collective
To those who struggle to decide what to drink, Black Brewing Co. is the place for you. Fancy a pint, but your significant other wants a gin and tonic? Hang on, maybe we should just have a wine. Oh, and something decent to eat…not another pizza, that was yesterday’s dinner. Well, here you have it. Caves Road Collective is home to Black Brewing Co., as well as Dune Distilling and Ground to Cloud Wines. They also have an awesome Asian-influenced share-style menu, complete with a special menu for kids. Plus, that all important playground to keep the kids busy while you finish your meal in peace and quiet.
Wild Hop Brewing Co.
Ever since the doors opened last summer at Wild Hop Brewing Co. it’s been a hit with beer lovers. An ever changing menu, you can easily pop in for a taste while the kids are kept busy in the nature playground. They have a sandpit, a climbing frame, slide and a massive sand pit with toys; while you have a woodfired menu filled with local produce and craft beer. Everyone’s happy, right?

What a great run down of all the best family friendly breweries!! I know what I’ll be doing this school holidays. Thanks so much!
What a fantastic list! I love going down south but it can be difficult with little ones.
I will definitely be sharing with friends!
Fantastic article Jacinta! Just in time for school holidays
Great article Jacinta:) now I have two kids I look forward to watching them enjoy theirselves at these great venues.
This is very handy to know! I’ll be sharing for all our friends with children visiting the area. Plus it’s great having a list instead of searching all the websites looking for venues with playgrounds. Thanks!
Fabulous, will share onto my facebook site so our future guests @ BUSSELTON BEACH STAYZ will enjoy these great South West facilities.
