Brown Hill Estate

Come and visit this small family-owned and operated winery. At Brown Hill, they believe in the maxim that ‘great wine is made in the vineyard’ so they treat their grapes and the vineyard with the utmost respect – all the fruit is handpicked and hand-sorted at harvest time from the single site vineyard.
Margaret River is home to many iconic Australian wineries, including Brown Hill Estate. Just a short 12-minute scenic drive south-east of the town centre of Margaret River, you will discover the charming village of Rosa Brook and Brown Hill Estate’s cellar door.

Brown Hill's cellar door sits at the heart of the boutique winery and is operated by friendly members of this family-owned business. Their knowledge of the Margaret River region, their wines and their vineyards is exceptional.

The cellar door is located inside the winery, so visitors can observe the winemaking process as it happens throughout the year. The wine tasting experience takes visitors on a journey through Brown Hill Estate’s three ranges.

They look forward to welcoming you on your next visit to Brown Hill Estate, in Margaret River’s rustic Rosa Brook village.

BLUF: Try it all. Gwen was an amazing host. This winery was an absolute highlight of our Margaret River trip. As a fellow Nathan I appreciate Nathan Bailey's wine, name bias aside. Recommend all the Chardonnay, the Desert Rose, both Cabernet Merlot, all of the Golden Mile, and especially the Liquor Muscat.

Missed opportunity Pro: - family owned - smaller vintage - they don’t buy or sell their grapes These wines weren’t for me - but to each their own. Others on our tour liked some. I did like the Muscat. Con: The tasting was a flop. One of the owners hosted our tasting and several people in our group commented that we felt like we were an inconvenience. The location could have been great for a host who told us about what were seeing (the machines, equipment, tanks) and how the processes might have differed for the different wines we tasted. That didn’t happen. Two other wineries had engaging hosts. One gave us a lot of Q&A time. Another was a good storyteller and had us laughing. This host did not seem to want us there. The tasting itself would be 1 star - not for the quality of the wine, but for the experience.

A lovely family owned winery that feels very authentic as you get to see the wine making process during your tasting. They provide very good explanations and make extra efforts to personalize your tasting. The wine was very good and we left with 2 bottles. I would highly recommend this place it was a highlight of our Margaret River wine tasting tour.

A really lovely afternoon, tasting great wine. Love that the wineries can combine the wine for a reasonable shipping cost via the tour we were taking.
