Private visits to Moss Wood - A privilege of Moss Wood membership At Moss Wood they welcome members for tastings and private visits by appointment only. A visit to Moss Wood is a rare and sought after experience not to be missed.

Their visits are unhurried and you will be guided by knowledgeable and experienced personnel through the winery and be introduced to their history, philosophy, vineyards and wines. You will taste wine from barrel and tank and visit the museum where you will view back vintages of Moss Wood wines. During vintage (February to April) you may see the processing of the grapes and also try pressed juice during various stages of fermentation.

There is a small charge of $100.00 per visit which is redeemable against any wine purchased on the day. Although visits can be requested for times between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Saturday, they are a working winery with a small dedicated staff and as such they ask you, if possible, to give them 2 or 3 days’ notice and may not always be able to accommodate your request. They will always try and if not this time, hopefully on your next visit to the area.

Planted in 1969, Moss Wood is an important, founding estate of the Margaret River wine region, located in the northern sub-region of Wilyabrup, Margaret River. Chief winemaker, viticulturist and proprietor, Keith Mugford has been making the wine and tending the vineyard at Moss Wood since 1979. In 1984 he was joined by his wife Clare. Their exacting viticulture ensures the production of grapes of excellent quality and together they have created a stable of fine wines distinguished by their consistency over each vintage and their ability to age superbly. The Moss Wood and Mugford names are synonymous with uncompromising quality.

Clare & Keith Mugford expanded their viticultural holdings in 2000 with the purchase of Ribbon Vale vineyard also located in the Wilyabrup sub region of Margaret River.

Wines produced at Moss Wood are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Semillon. Wines produced at Ribbon Vale are Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, Merlot and Botrytis Semillon. Moss Wood also produces a Cabernet Sauvignon with fruit purchased from Yallingup.

Moss wood private tour is definitely the highlight in our Margaret river wine trail and Josh was brilliant in leading the wine tour and we spent 1.5hrs learning about their wines, history, vineyard, wine making and tasting some of their brilliant wines. Moss wood being one of the starting pioneers in Margaret river have such great history and it's wonderful to experience that. One of the very few vineyards in Margaret river that doesn't use new oak and use the oak for a good 10+ yrs which means you are letting the wine speak for itself rather than getting it influenced by the oak, something that shows their excellence in wine making.

We did 5 cellar door wineries in Margs, Mosswood was the highlight. They don't have a cellar door so you get a short tour of a working winery. Delpina gave us a wonderful and informative experience.Do yourself a favour and book a tour, during the week they only do 2 a day, weekends 4 a day. Did I forget to mention, the wines are 5 ☆
