International Lighthouse Day
On the 14th & 15th August 2009 the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse will celebrate International Lighthouse Day with pirate themed tours, art competitions, community displays, a treasure hunt (on the 14th) and best dress pirate competitions.
International Lighthouse Day is a worldwide event which promotes public awareness of lighthouses and lightships and their need for preservation and restoration, to promote amateur radio and to foster international goodwill. Originally held in Scotland, over the past 12 years the event has grown to over 400 lighthouses in some 50 countries around the world participating in the event.
Last year over 600 visitors enjoyed a range of exciting range of activities over the three days including; themed guided tours; amateur radio broadcasting, free presentations and displays on a fascinating historical, cultural and environmental aspect of the lighthouse and the cape and the opportunity to speak with old lighthouse keepers and listen to talks on climate change hosted by the Bureau of Meteorology.

The lighthouse precinct is open from 8:45am to 5pm daily. Last guided tour at 4pm.
