ORGANIC WINE

Burnside Organic Farm is also home to a small family winery.  Jamie & Lara planted the grapes in 2001 and they handpick and make the wine onsite. Certified Biodynamic Demeter. Your guarantee the wine is organic from paddock to bottle.

Jamie & Lara chose the variety Zinfandel because of its luscious berry fruit characters. Keeping with the Italian theme, they also planted a white grape variety called Vermentino.  The wine is pale in colour, medium-bodied and the palate is full of sumptuous zesty lemon, stone fruit, pear and earthy minerality. It is an excellent food wine.  Both the Zinfandel & Vermentino are dry grown. The vines have to search deep for water, encouraging strong, deep resilient roots.
The fruit is handpicked in early March. The Zinfandel is wild fermented in open vats. The Vermentino is pressed and wild fermented in barrel. Grapes are picked when the moon is waxing when sugar levels are at their best. The Zinfandel must is basket pressed and placed in a combination of new and old French oak barrels. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation in barrel and is aged for 12 months.

Nice farm stay at Burnside Organic Farm in a 2 bedroom bungalow. Had a swing & patio outside which made for a great place to hang out and have breakfast. Comfortable and clean beds with summer duvets. Quick 10 min drive to town for supplies. On our second day, we had a guided farm walk around the property from our lovely host Lara. There were cows, geese, pigs, rabbits and even kangaroo sightings. Another bonus was a forest walking/jogging track nearby which is connected to Wooditjup National Park. Our stay here made for wonderful core memories for our children. Will definitely recommend.

We absolutely loved our stay at Burnside. Lara made us feel very welcome and the apartment was very comfortable and well appointed. We’d thoroughly recommend the farm for a stay in Margaret River and only wished we stayed longer. James and Susannah

We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Burnside (Bungalow 2) as a party of 4 adults and 2 small babies. A beautiful place and really nice experience that we would highly recommend to anyone visiting the region. The location is peaceful, relaxing and really feels like you can connect with nature and the beautiful surroundings of Margaret River, and yet still only be a convenient 10 minute drive to the town center for restaurants, shops etc. The bungalow was clean and well thought out and had everything we needed within it. Two comfy bedrooms, a nice open living space, lovely log fire for the cold months and an outdoor patio area for taking in some fresh air. Also a kids swing for little ones to play on. The kids absolutely loved walking around the farm, which has a lovely 20 minute loop around the fields where you can see geese, cows, pigs and chickens as well as wild kangaroos in an adjacent field. We joined Lara for the morning feeding and she was kind enough to give us the full tour and tell us all about the farm and area, and we also did a few solo walks too. There are also tractors and diggers which Lara kindly let our 2.5 year old sit on, which he was delighted with! Thank you for having us and we look forward to staying again soon!

We had a wonderful visit to Burnside for a wine tasting. We enjoyed the delicious biodynamic wines made here, and especially loved that the wine cellar had a little nook for kids with toys and books to keep them occupied so we as parents could enjoy the tasting! We had made an advanced booking and Lara was so thoughtful about our visit, waiting for us to come before she let the geese out of their holding area so that our toddler could have some fun experiencing this :) We’d definitely come back and perhaps stay next time!
