Empire Retreat

A lush grove of eucalyptus trees envelops you once you’re down the driveway and through the rusty wrought iron gates at Empire Retreat. Pass through the ivy-covered antique wooden doors and you’re in the drop dead gorgeously-styled reception, complete with wood fire, cushioned lounges and a sun-drenched breakfast room. The entire site has been furnished with impeccable taste by sister business Empire Homewares. The adults-only retreat has 11 rooms of various levels to select from, including the Farmhouse suites or villas. The verdant grounds are surrounded by vines, olives, native bush, a dam and even geese, providing the most romantic of destinations. The on-site spa (a must) uses all organic Sodashi products. Breakfast is offered daily, and gourmet hampers for two can be organised in advance.

Tree Chalets

Here we give you the more modern and luxurious version of a cabin in the woods, nestled extremely privately in a rose gum plantation, with a cast-iron claw-foot bathtub on the deck. The interiors are modern yet extremely comfortable, with a fireside couch, kitchen and cosy bedding to match the muted tones of the eucalypt surrounds. They have personally seen to special occasions on site like proposals, and offer nine different hamper options on their website, with a mix of bathing and beauty products, chocolates, strawberries and champagne…or our personal favourite, “fireside treats”, which includes two mugs, marshmallow, hot chocolate mix and cookies. Plus the property is adults-only, so serenity is guaranteed.

Olio Bello Lakeside Glamping

As well as its oil, farm café, pantry and beauty products, Olio Bello is now well known for its Lakeside Glamping. Six luxury safari bungalows lie on the shores of the property’s large dam, flanked by some 8000 olive trees on the 320-acre organic farm. There is really no need to leave when the activities range from lunch at the café, oil sampling, walks through the grove, mountain biking, card and boardgames, bocce, cricket, croquet, or the option to organise a treat from the wellness menu or yoga. The bungalows are each kitted out with an ensuite, kitchenette and viewing deck, with breakfast baskets provided for multiple night stays. There are also glamper hampers, a take away menu or DIY summer barbecue options.

Soak the day away at Burnside Organic Farm.

Burnside Organic Farm

Picture hot soaking in a deep stone bathtub with rustic copper and brass tapware on a wooden deck, limestone wall behind you, after a day spent learning and interacting on an organic farm. With a biodynamic vineyard, permaculture market garden, avocado orchard, caper plantation, bee hives, cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, there’s a lot of fun to be had. Burnside Organic Farm offers a few accommodation options, but recommend their limestone bungalow as the most romantic, with the aforementioned Pinterest-worthy tub. Guests have exclusive access to animal feeding, the kitchen garden, private farm tours and wine tasting experiences (zinfandel and vermentino) and can learn oodles from hosts Lara and Jamie McCall on permaculture and self-sufficiency. The limestone bungalow has a modern farmhouse interior with rendered walls, timber ceilings, a timber and stone kitchen and most importantly, a pot belly fire.

Gilgara Retreat

‘Old world luxury’ comes to mind at Gilgara Retreat, a quiet and private adults-only enclave with a traditional farmhouse, garden suites, impeccably manicured lawn and cottage garden only five minutes from Margaret River. Gilgara has been the location for many a high-end wedding, so no wonder that it is revered by couples to get away and treat themselves (even for a ‘digital detox’, as recommended by the venue itself). Two accommodation options are available; either one of five ensuited king bedrooms in the traditional homestead, where the shared lounge, reading and dining rooms feature crisp white interiors, wooden floors and traditional furnishings like green velvet chesterfield armchairs; or the self-contained, modern garden suites with spa baths, rammed earth walls and native garden views.

Littlewood Farm

Self-described as ‘rustic luxe charm’, Littlewood Farm is a modern gabled-roof farmhouse sitting among 30 acres of trees and farmland 10 minutes from Margaret River. Rough cut timber, concrete, stone and vintage-style brass tapware make for natural and industrial touches in the contemporary interior. There is personality scattered in every room, like bohemian vintage trunks and edison light bulbs. A wrought iron table setting on the deck is the perfect spot to sip a wine and take in the woodland vantage. Finish your evening in the claw foot bathtub, by the fireplace or cooking up a storm in the kitchen.

Injidup Spa Retreat
Treat yourself to a luxurious getaway at Injidup Spa Retreat.

Injidup Spa Retreat

Perched right on the ridge of Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park – with 180 degree views of Injidup beach – lie 10 adult-only villas, each with a private plunge pool, sun loungers and a dreamy, spa-like aesthetic. The rooms are white and cream with earthy and timber accents, much like the namesake Bodhi Spa itself, where guests can be pampered right on site. The Honeymoon Villa boasts a stunning bowl-shaped terrazzo bath tub, but all the villas have an ensuite, private patio, fireplace and kitchenette with a breakfast hamper and wine on arrival. In terms of fancy-pants extras, you could try in-villa dining with a private chef, in-house yoga classes, guided Cape to Cape walk treks (which, by the way, is right on the doorstep) or choose from Bodhi Spa’s holistic, natural and organic wellness menu.

Tanah Marah

So you want some romance, but you are the active types. How about somewhere with kayaking, a 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, gym, lawn games and a library? The Tanah Marah estate, which sits between Margaret River and Cowaramup, houses six self-contained chalets around a massive private lake. A vast lawn and gorgeous forest play the backdrop to these rammed earth rooms, with warm and inviting interiors, rammed earth walls and modern kitchen and lounge areas. The lake is recommended for its epic views or as a dreamy picnic spot for two. Otherwise settle in on your private terrace, laze on the outdoor lounge setting and say hello to the friendly herd of sheep as they graze on by.

Jarrah Grove Forest Retreat

There’s bound be someone reading this pining for a romantic weekend, but can’t bear the thought of leaving their pooch at home. Enter Jarrah Grove Forest Retreat! There’s lots to keep you and your beloved furry friend feeling loved up, including walk tracks through 86 acres of private forest, the option to BYO mountain bikes, and a hot tub under the stars! (Doggo might have to sit that one out). The self-contained rammed earth chalets are 15 minutes south of Margaret River, and feel warm and textural throughout, with wooden floors, kitchen, a wood fire and modern interiors. The bathroom caters beautifully, with a deep two-person bath tub set in a bay window, and a two-person rain-head shower. As well as the hot tub outdoors, there’s a private covered timber deck and barbecue. Pick from one of four hampers as an indulgent extra for breakfast goodies, cheese and wine, bubbles, chocolates and more.

Losari Retreat

Losari Retreat is perfectly peaceful and brimming with European influences on its 66 acre grounds – think arbors, statues, bubbling water fountains – and four different villas, each with a covered outdoor spa. The modern villas are each equipped with ecofires and immaculate outdoor living spaces, while the property itself is a popular wedding destination, especially with its lakeside viewing deck. The team at Losari also specialise in romantic getaways, with eight carefully curated choices. The most opulent would be ‘Luxe it Up’, a 3-night stay with grazing platter on arrival, breakfast hamper, a Scenic Helicopters beach picnic trip and a seven-hour private vine tour in a vintage car with MR Mustang Hire. Otherwise, ‘The Day Spa’ includes a couples massage in the villa, or ‘The Romance’ is the best bet for a proposal: in-house chef, local sparkling and Vasse Virgin gift pack included.

Bina Maya Yallingup Escape

Barefoot luxury and self-catering villas with a hotel service feel – that is the mantra of Bina Maya Yallingup Escape. There is a myriad of in-house services, from girls getaways to in-house dining, wellness yoga and massage, wine tours and more all on offer. A breakfast grazing board or cheese, charcuterie and wine can be arranged.

Dunsborough Ridge Retreat

With a tranquil forest location, infinity pool by the bush and unique brick and timber villas, Dunsborough Ridge Retreat lies just a beautiful walk away from Goanna Gallery and Happs Wines. There are four villas to choose from, each with handcrafted timber touches throughout, and vast skylight and feature windows letting in glimpses of the surrounding treetops. The design is innovative in maximising the experience with the natural surroundings, and the villas themselves are tactile and spacious, made of timber, brick and render. Dunsborough town is only 10 minutes away by car.
