Bunuru Festival: a celebration of art, music and culture

Bunuru or ‘second summer’ is that time of the year when Summer seems to go on forever. February and March, the Noongar season of Bunuru is usually the hottest time of the year in Western Australia. It’s also the time to welcome the community to one of the region’s most anticipated events, the Bunuru Festival.

Undalup Association presents Bunuru Festival is a family -friendly smoke and vape-free festival where community members can come together to share stories and culture. Now in its fourth year and hosted at Pioneer Park in Cowaramup, this free event is a unique showcase of local Aboriginal culture, art and music.

On Saturday 21 February 12pm – 5pm, bring the whole family to the festival at Pioneer Park in Cowaramup and settle back on your picnic rug, grab a bite to eat and enjoy a workshop, all while being entertained by some of Western Australia’s best Indigenous artists.

Zac Webb, Chair of the Undulup Association whose aim is to share Aboriginal cultural knowledge with the community, says, ‘Bunuru Festival is about bringing community together, on Country, to celebrate Country. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone out there, friends and families connecting and enjoying the music, crafts and things to do.’

Here is what you can expect from Bunuru Festival this year.

Workshops and activities

Bunuru Festival organisers have curated a bunch of exciting community workshops, art activities and stalls showcasing Indigenous wares and art.

Karla Hart will be curating films and hosting talks in the chapel film space
Kite Kinetics, Alkira Designs and Creative Culture 3D Animal Wraps with Lea Taylor will be holding workshops throughout the day
MC Ingrid Cumming will conduct a Noongar language lesson
A diverse range of stalls will showcase Indigenous wares and art, featuring vendors such as Deadly Denim, Yalkarang Consulting, Owl Friendly and the Undalup Rangers
An Elders tent will hold space for reflection and connection

On the Stage

On the Tronox Stage this year you can catch a talented lineup of musicians including;
