Cruise the lower Blackwood River onboard the Dolphin Discoverer with local guide and Skipper Graeme Challis. Tours are an absolute must for birdwatchers and nature lovers. You will enjoy fantastic scenery, local stories and the greatest number and variety of birdlife in the southwest. Dolphins are regularly seen and will often play in the wake of the boat.
Enjoy a cruise of the beautiful Blackwood River and be entertained and informed with a guided tour of the unspoilt wetland ecosystem.

From the River mouth to Molloy Island, it is rich in history and teeming with wildlife.  The shallow waters, sandbanks and river islands are alive with an amazing variety of birdlife. It is a major feeding ground for Black Swans, Pelicans and Cormorants. There are 60 species of bird that have been seen, with some flying from the northern hemisphere.  A pod of resident Bottle-nose Dolphins is seen regularly and if not, many fish will play alongside the boat.

The Dolphin Discoverer is a safe, comfortable, all-weather, purpose-built vessel with easy access and good viewing.  Augusta River Cruises is licensed for 29 passengers and can be hired for private tours, sundowners, parties etc. So, get a group together.

Free rainwater is available on-board, but you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks. A camera, binoculars and a smile are recommended.

Tour Skipper and Guide Graeme Challis has grown up on the River with his grandparents settling on the Blackwood in 1923 and with a family history of fishing the river he has plenty of local knowledge and stories to tell.

Such a wonderful tour of the Blackwood River. Graeme was a very entertaining tour guide, providing interesting information and history about the area. You are provided with binoculars to use. There are plenty of different types of birds to see. We didn't get to see dolphins on our tour, but we had such a great day regardless. Highly recommend that you book your tickets in advance on their website to secure your spot.

A really great tour. Graeme is a brilliant guide and has some interesting stories and great knowledge of the area having lived here his whole life. We saw lots of different birds and we were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins too (but it still would have been fantastic without!). Definitely recommend when in Augusta 👍

Thank you Graeme for a lovely afternoon on the Blackwood River. You just can't beat local knowledge, along with absolute enthusiasm 🥰 The sea eagle was definitely a bonus.

A definite must do when in Augusta 👌👍We thoroughly enjoyed the river tour and the wealth of information re: all different birds and Augusta history. Bonus : Binoculars supplied on board.Graeme is a genuine walking well of Augusta's history and makes the tour very enjoyable with his enthusiasm and sense of humour. He went out of his way to show our group uncommon birds. And we were so chuffed to learn that Augusta had some connection to Mauritius in 1830's 🙂🙂 Thank you Graeme
