The Margaret River Golf Club is a private club open to both new members and visitors. The 6092 metre par 72 course is one of Western Australia’s most highly regarded country courses.
The golf course was created by a group of golfing enthusiasts in the early 1950's in a bushland cleared setting near the mouth of the Margaret River and winds its way up and down the slopes of the coastal ridge. This spectacular setting is complemented by an abundance of flora and fauna, native and local trees. The resident kangaroos have been a major attraction for visitors, golfers and non-golfers alike for many years.

Although not heavily bunkered, the course features numerous water hazards, mostly on the front nine holes. The back nine in particular requires careful shot consideration owing to the undulating fairways and large trees.

The Margaret River golf course is in pristine condition year round and at its perfect best during the winter months especially.

Visitors are welcome but bookings are essential. Clubs, buggies and carts are available for hire at the on-course golf shop that also stock a wide range of equipment and essentials.

The clubhouse offers a well stocked bar and stunning views over the course from the verandah.

The bar is open daily from 11am to 7pm during summer. Bar snacks available all day.

On our holiday in WA, in July 2020. I booked in to play golf at Margret River golf course in the morning. Was a beautiful day. The staff were very friendly and assisted with explaining the course layout, as I had never played it before. The practice facilities for warm up on is good and electric golf carts for hire too. The pro shop is well equipped with all the good golf equipment you need to enjoy your day. It's is also noteworthy to keep in mind, that most WA golf courses have their greens cored / serviced in March. The golf course is well maintained, and in very good playable condition. It is a good test of your golfing ability when playing off the back tees. Another course off the beaten track, that deserves a visit for a round of golf.

Pro shop very helpful, first time I’ve played this course, won’t be the last. It’s in great condition despite all the rain this week. Greens would be “interesting” when dry. Nice variety of difficulty, front nine more open, back nine a little more challenging

Nice course which is being well maintained by the greens keeping staff. Only thing keeping it from getting a 5 star rating was less than ideal starting / crossover due to a member ladies day comp. As a two ball, we played the front 9 in 1:20 but we’re asked to stop from crossing over to hole 10 to allow 3 groups of 4 balls to play the back 9 for the second time that day, I guess because there was maintenance being done to the front 9. It made little sense to stop our 2 ball, as the groups were still playing and the nearest group to making their turn was better than 20 min from completing there round. This was born out by us standing at the 10th tee for 20 min only to still watching the ladies hitting their approach shots to the 28th green at that point. When the starter again stated that the ladies were members of the club and expected to cross over without delay, we elected to pack it in for the day rather than wait what would clearly be approx another hour before being able to tee off. Effectively, as we had played the front 9 in 1:20, we were being asked to wait a similar amount of time just to start our second 9, when had we been able to simply make our turn without being stopped, we would have been a couple of holes ahead of their groups and playing at a faster pace as well. Note to the starter / manager. While you have a nice course and it’s well looked after, if you are going to operate it as a course where the public are allowed to pay green fees to play, you can’t then disadvantage the paying public after you have accepted their money. Foursomes do not play faster than twosomes and we would have likely completed both the 10th and 11th holes before the first group of ladies even reached the 10th tee. Regardless of the above comments, I would recommend the course to anyone looking for a game while in the Margret River area, it’s a very enjoyable walk.
