The Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre is the most exciting and innovative heritage project in the South West of Western Australia. It’s the first museum to be developed in the area for many decades. Located on Wardandi Noongar Boodja, Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre is housed within a state heritage listed building with a long established history as a community space for education and storytelling. New, contemporary exhibitions reveal all Bunbury’s key stories and objects, many never seen before in the South West.
The Museum’s permanent exhibition tells the unique stories of the South West's regional centre and the colourful characters who helped to make Bunbury the vibrant city that it is today. From the oldest continuous living culture of the Wardandi Noongar Aboriginal Australians, to the shipwrecks and struggles of early migrants, convicts and wartime stories, daily life and local industry - the people of the region have all contributed to this city’s rich history.

The museum delivers a changing program of travelling and locally developed exhibitions and displays highlighting Bunbury stories with objects, interactive displays and events designed for all ages and imaginations.

Also part of the museum team is the Local Studies Collection department, established about 30 years ago to safeguard Bunbury’s documentary history, with an emphasis on council records. The new Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre meet the needs and interests of the Bunbury community, visitors to the city, and school students through its education programs, developed in line with the Western Australian Curriculum.
