“Margaret River was only a young region when Cape Mentelle claimed the Jimmy Watson trophy in successive years, proving it wasn’t a fluke and that there was something special about this region at the edge of Australia. Cape Mentelle really put Margaret River on the map.” Penny Dickeson, Estate Director
Cape Mentelle, established in 1970, is one of the founding wineries of Margaret River.  While pioneering many of the region's renowned wine styles, Cape Mentelle also consistently serves as a benchmark for the quality of Margaret River wines. Accolades including consecutive wines of Australia's most prestigious wine trophy, the Jimmy Watson, with the iconic Cabernet Sauvignon in 1983 and 1984, helped put Margaret River on the international wine map.  Today, Cape Mentelle's tradition of pioneering spirit and uncompromising commitment to excellence is being upheld by their talented and innovative young team.

As a guest at Cape Mentelle, you can be assured that they take their environmental responsibilities seriously. The 120 hectares of estate vineyards are managed with a sustainable viticulture philosophy, meaning as close to organic as possible. This philosophy extends through the winery and waste management practices.

A favourite for wine lovers The cellar store and vineyard are beautiful with lovely staff Enjoy a tasting in the barrel room, book a picnic or watch movie. One of the only vineyards offering a Zinfandel. Outside it dog friendly Watch out for chick's and geese.

One of the best wine tastings I've ever had. Staff member that worked on that day gave us a very detailed description of each wine and food pairings for wine that we were trying, she was also very pleasant to talk to. As an added bonus wine at Cape mentelle is very high quality and tastes great.

Been to Margaret River plenty of times, but for reasons I can't explain, I have never visited Cape Mentelle. We were down during a covid mask period, so we had seated service. It was a case of fine wines and excellent service, a pretty decent visit.

Had a great experience here, really well looked after by Rachel despite arriving late in the day. She had no problem taking me through the range covering all the details. Impressive wines too- really continuing their tradition of excellence.
