Vintage Welcome to Country & Smoking Ceremony

calendar
Thursday, 8th February 2024 - 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Description

The start of vintage is an incredibly special time of year in the Margaret River Region, as grapes are harvested from the vines and the vineyards and wineries become a hive of activity.

This special ceremony takes place as vintage begins, and sees the local community gather to welcome seasonal workers arriving in the region to assist with the work.

The Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony is led by Wadandi Pibulmum Elder, Dr. Wayne Webb. The traditional smoking ceremony is used to cleanse and purify the spirit, body and soul and signifies the beginning of something new.

The event will also feature live music by local musicians, The Nomadics.

The event presented by the Margaret River Wine Association and the Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association is free of charge and will take place at Pioneer Park Amphitheatre, Cowaramup, from 5.30pm.

Guests are encouraged to BYO chairs or a picnic blanket and a picnic.

To celebrate the region’s multiculturalism, the event organiser encourages workers and visitors from other nations to bring a flag from their homeland to display at the event.
