Ishara has lived in the Margaret River Region for the last 13 years, and loves being based in this beautiful little corner of Australia.

While working at the Colourpatch Café she is also studying to become a primary school teacher, and in her spare time loves to explore the outdoors and work on various arts and crafts projects.

Ishara has taken the time to share some of her local favourites with us.

What’s your favourite beach?

There are so many great beaches, but if I had to choose a favourite it would have to be Flinders Bay. The beach is so beautiful with clear blue water and soft white sand. There are so many activities to do such as snorkelling, swimming, having a BBQ, fishing, and taking the dog for a walk. You might also be able to spot the local wildlife including dolphins, whales, seals, eagles, pelicans and stingrays.

Where do you always take your visitors?

I take my visitors for a drive to Hamelin Bay to go for a swim and see the wild stingrays (but make sure you keep your distance!)

Best fun in the region without spending a cent?

Best fun without spending money would be going for a stroll along the Blackwood River to unwind after a long day.

5

Favourite time of year?

My favourite time of the year is summer. The rain starts to decrease, and the sun starts to shine. There are so many things to do during this time such as snorkelling, surfing, swimming, fishing, and bike riding. The days are longer which means more time to swim and play at the beach.

Best place to watch the sunset?

The best place to watch the sunset is at the Cape Leeuwin Water Wheel where the Southern Ocean and the Indian Ocean meet. There are often great sunsets that light up the sky with pinks and reds. A definite must-see!

Things to do on a rainy day?

Go for a drive to the lookout to watch the rain fall on the ocean, visit Deckchair Café for a yummy hot chocolate, and visit Jewel Cave for a guided tour amongst the gorgeous crystal formations.

You can’t leave the Margaret River Region without…

Doing a winery/brewery tour. There are so many great wineries and breweries in the south west, you can’t miss them! Hire out a bus or van and live it up with your family and friends. Make sure you stay hydrated!
