Busselton & Vasse

For a contemporary experience, step into Nathan Day Gallery, where bold, large-scale furniture works celebrate the raw textures and tones of the South West. Expect an immersive space where the furniture and art exist in a natural, unforced dialogue. It is an environment built for those who value the dedication behind the work and the understated quality of the finished pieces.

If you’re visiting the Old Butter Factory, make sure to pay the Busselton Woodturners a visit. Their workshop welcomes young and old to see woodturning craftspeople at work, creating beautiful works of art and quality handcrafted wares.

Saltwater Busselton, the highly anticipated performing arts venue and convention centre, is now open. A short stroll from the foreshore and Busselton Jetty. Stay tuned for exciting events, entertainment and art exhibitions. Continue along Queen Street’s Settlement Sculpture Walk and find six bronze sculptures by renowned Western Australian artist Greg James. This collection represents the people and industries that contributed to Busselton’s development.

Dunsborough

Happs Pottery is home to exclusive handcrafted pottery and is master potter Myles Happ’s working pottery studio and showroom. Learn the skills of pot making through their pottery experiences. One of the region’s oldest working studios, follow the Happs journey through the gallery filled with contemporary handcrafted ceramics made by Myles, Jacquie, and the team – perfect for gifts.

Commonage Pottery located at Happs Wines is a thriving creative hub where visitors can experience live demonstrations, from potters at the wheel to glass flame work and painters creating stunning pieces. The gallery supports 16 local potters, painters, and artisans, including resident artists like Gary Hambleton, Colin Pratt, Annie Winchcombe, Namaya Fox, Jenny Taylor, and Japneet Kaur.

Sensei Pots Studio Gallery showcases the work of Master Potter and Ceramic Artist Ian Beniston offering visitors a rare opportunity to view both finished works and the working studio where they are created. Get an insight into Ian’s creative process, with the chance at times to see him working at the wheel before stepping into the gallery, which features a range of contemporary ceramics alongside functional pieces like bowls, teapots, cups and vases.

Yallingup

John Miller Design creates distinctive jewellery designs treasured by long-time clients. The wearable art pieces are inspired by nature and the elements in hand-worked gold and sterling silver pieces. John Miller Designs also has a studio in Margaret River.

Visit The Studio Gallery and chances are you’ll fall in love with one of their pieces. The contemporary, bright exhibition space showcases leading Australian artists with special exhibitions.

Yallingup Galleries, the oldest in the Margaret River Region and winner of the 2024 Business Excellence Awards ‘Innovative Award’, is set in beautiful bushland. It features works by renowned Australian artists, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, jewellery, glassware, and ceramics. The gallery is surrounded by the Yallingup Galleries Sculpture Trail and also home to Vallée Du Venom’s cellar door – an urban micro winery offering small-batch, minimal-intervention wines.

Yallingup Aboriginal Art is the region’s largest dedicated contemporary Aboriginal art gallery. Set in the heart of the Margaret River Region in Yallingup, the family-owned and operated business is passionate about providing a platform for Indigenous artists to tell their stories. They welcome all visitors to immerse themselves in the artwork and experience the window to Dreamtime.

John Streater’s name is synonymous with fine furniture craftsmanship in Western Australia. Visit his rural John Streater Fine Furniture studio to watch him at work and appreciate works by guest artists.

Rivendell Winery Estate blends fine wine with local artistry, showcasing works by local artists like Heidi Emma and Tania Daymond and Mark Teakle. With striking paintings, sculptures and a scenic vineyard setting, explore it all under one roof.

Wilyabrup / Metricup / Cowaramup

On your way south, make sure to stop at the very first winery after Vasse, Island Brook Estate. It’s hard to miss if you look out for their signature red truck. On request, they will guide you through a gate on their property to Suzy French Art’s beautiful gallery. Have a chat with the artist about her process and look over her shoulder as she creates her new masterpiece. Her stunning paintings celebrate the Australian landscape and might be the perfect memento of your visit to the Margaret River Region.

The original Vasse Felix winery has been preserved as an Art Gallery featuring a seasonal program of curated exhibitions showcasing works from invited artists and the celebrated Janet Holmes à Court Collection.

As part of its longstanding relationship with art, Cherubino introduced the Linton and Kay gallery in its cellar door barrel hall. Here, visitors can appreciate ever-rotating exhibitions as they savour premium wine.

Potter Bill Meiklejohn creates imaginative ocean-inspired sculptures and functional pieces in his rustic Wilyabrup Dreaming Pottery studio in a peaceful bushland setting.

Partner of much-loved Sculpture by the Sea, Thompson Estate is home to sculptures by both International and Australian artists. The larger sculptures are located outside, surrounded by their picturesque vineyard.

Margaret River

The association of Leeuwin Estate’s wines and art began with the launch of its now-famous Art Series wine labels and has since become a collection of more than 150 paintings by artists the likes of John Olsen, Arthur Boyd, and Sir Sidney Nolan. Most are on display in the gallery.

Dilkes Hoffman Studio Ceramics lies in a beautiful bush setting on Caves Road, showcasing high-quality pottery, sculpture and moulded ceramics.

Margaret River HEART – Nala Bardip Mia regularly hosts exhibitions of emerging and established artists, each telling a different story of the region. Combine your visit with a live performance or cinema showing, and help to support the arts and culture hub of the community.

Right on the main street, the long-time Margaret River artistic hub has begun a new chapter as REDSEA Gallery. Owners Chris and Charlie Churcher have carefully curated a mix of thoughtfully and carefully curated local, national and international artists.

The Barn is a welcoming creative studio offering art and hands-on workshops led by local and visiting artists throughout the year. Set on a working farm, the space is surrounded by gardens and resident highland cows, creating a relaxed and inspiring environment for creative exploration.

The gallery at Mr Barval Fine Wines supports artists from remote Indigenous communities. All exhibitions are not-for-profit, and proceeds are returned to support both artists and community health and wellness initiatives.

The Cocoon Gallery for Emerging Artists at Margaret River Library has a rotating exhibition program.

Hamelin Bay

Tucked amongst the Karri trees, Hamelin Bay Gallery is home to handcrafted timber and resin furniture and serving boards, local wildlife and aerial photography, timber slabs and offcuts, and other local artists’ unique designs.

While you’re in Hamelin Bay, pay a visit to Margaret River Sculpture Park and Wood Be Good Woodcraft Gallery. Located on the doorstep of the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, the park is the creation of local master craftsman and chainsaw artist, Brendan Booth, who draws his inspiration from 25 years of life in the South West. Brendan takes his natural canvas from logs with splits, pieces from farm wind rows, and reclaimed timber. A treasure hunt has been fashioned among the sculptures, which has been created as a way for kids to enjoy the natural raw space with their parents and interact with the art.
