HOLY COW!  The World’s Largest International Art Event “CowParade” Is Coming To Town!

Have you ever picked up a hitch hiking cow? Or spotted a bright blue cow sitting on a park bench, or perhaps one with a surfboard under its arm checking out the surf? No? Well you could soon! If you haven’t "herd", the internationally acclaimed CowParade, the most successful public art event in the world is setting its sights on our region!

CowParade organisers, the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association (AMRTA), are excited to have secured the rights to host the event. “Over 500 cities worldwide have applied for the rights to the event but only 50 cities have been successful in their application in nearly a decade of the event’s history,” AMRTA CEO Francine Errico said.

“Host cities have included prestigious places like Chicago, New York City, London, Tokyo, Prague and Paris and we hope to add the Margaret River region to its glamorous list!”

So what is all the fuss about? Simply, the cow is a universally beloved animal. The cow represents different things to different people around the world-she’s sacred, she’s historical, she connects us to our past-but the common feeling is one of affection. There is something magical about the cow that transcends throughout the world. She simply makes everyone smile.

But what is CowParade? Well a whole bunch of life-size fibre glass cows are hauled in and left in the hands of our talented local artists.

Once the cows are painted, sculpted, morphed and more they will be placed at various locations across the Cape including wineries, beaches, local businesses, iconic attractions and town centres. The cows will be around from March to June and plenty of people will travel far and wide to see them. The culmination of the four month event is a gala auction of the cows, where the proceeds will go to selected charities and regional projects.

Vintage Stomp, now a well known major celebration of the end of the vintage harvest, involves scores of community groups and organisations, all timed to enable the hundreds who have toiled to bring in the crop over the previous three months to relax, to rest, and to celebrate.
The day is one of entertainment and festivity, starting with a parade headed by the God of wine Bacchus bringing to life a day filled with circus performers, dancers, actors, minstrels, competitions and more, once more under the creative direction of the Noble Rot theatre company. In keeping up with the tradition of a theme from another wine growing country, this year's Californian styled event is sure to be a winner with the crowds.
On offer will be great wine, delicious food, a mini market under the shade of the trees, a cheese tent in the licensed area to name but a few. Lots of reasons to enjoy the day and celebrate like only the Californians know how -adding true Napa Valley style. Many local business and community groups have already signed up to participate in this fabulous event.
We are now calling on local wineries, artisans, food vendors and regional produce suppliers who wish to be involved in this years vintage Stomp - particularly those who could make the most of the Californian theme.

The Bibbulmun & Beyond Tour ventures beyond the Bibbulmun Track exploring Bluff Knoll in the Stirling Range National Park near Albany. Led by experienced guides from the Bibbulmun Track Foundation, this tour takes in some spectacular scenery along the Track.

The iconic Bibbulmun Track in Western Australia is one of the world’s great long-distance walk trails, stretching almost 1000kms from Kalamunda in the Perth Hills to Albany on the south coast. The Track passes through some of the most diverse and beautiful coastal, forest and wilderness areas of Australia’s south west, and these Tours allow participants to experience glimpses of the very best sections. In 2004 and 2006 the Bibbulmun Track won the WA Tourism Award for Significant Tourist Attraction and was a finalist in 2007 and 2008.

The itinerary has been carefully compiled to combine a variety of day-walks with off-track accommodation. The specially selected full and half-day walks cover varied landscapes of the Track from the rolling hills and jarrah forests in the northern section, through the magnificent karri and tingle forest to the spectacular ocean views and coastal heathlands in the far south. Lead Guide, Steve Sertis, who has walked the length of the Track three times and knows it ‘like the back of his hand’ said “These tours are a great way to showcase the best of the Track and offer a unique experience to participants."

A private bus provides transport to and from the Track each day and participants will experience a number of unique eco-tourism attractions in the region.  Each evening the group returns to comfortable accommodation in the rural towns and villages along the Track. The group is limited to 16 and the cost is $2,400 twin share (single supplements available).  Participants need carry only a small daypack, and the flexible itinerary caters for all levels of experience.

The Bibbulmun Track Foundation is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation established to provide support for the management, maintenance and marketing of the Bibbulmun Track.  They have been conducting guided walks on the Bibbulmun Track for a number of years.   All proceeds from this trip support the ongoing sustainability of the Bibbulmun Track.
