ARTS MARGARET RIVER'S MOVIES
Date: February 2012
Venue: Margaret River Cultural Centre, Walcliffe Road
The Ides of March Rated: M 101min
7pm Wednesday 1 February
2pm Sunday 5 February
Timely in the current political climate, this is a tale of changed perceptions delivered by a superlative cast. On the basis of this film, and if he campaigned as effectively as he does as Governor Mike Morris, George Clooney would romp home as the next Democratic President of the United States.
We Bought a Zoo Rated: G 124min
7pm Wednesday 8 February
2pm Sunday 12 February
Based on real events, grief is the driver that prompts Benjamin Mee (Matt Damon) to uproot his family and look for a new life. This endearing story about a family buying a private zoo offers more drama than the images of its photogenic animals (camels, a grizzly bear, a lion, tigers, snakes, peacocks and more.
Warhorse Rated: M 146min
7pm Wednesday 15 February
2pm Sunday 19 February
Steven Spielberg‟s wonderful film about an extraordinary horse. Described as a miraculous horse, with „speed, stamina and everything‟, the spirited chestnut stallion with the white blaze has traits we can instantly admire: individuality, loyalty, courage and plenty of heart. Spielberg‟s powerful drama takes us into the lives of the many people who are touched by the horse—none more so than a the boy who raises him and with whom it shares an indestructible bond.
I’m Not Dead Yet Rated: M 95min
7pm Wednesday 22 February Doco Club returns for 2012.
With a nod to country music, Tamworth and our own Boyup Brook Country Music Festival we bring you the story of Chad Morgan, “the Borat of Australian country music who was an inspiration to every ugly bloke who‟d given up hope of ever getting a bit,” as narrator Tex Perkins puts it. And despite several reports of his death, Chadwick is still very much alive—and a lively bloke at that (at the time of writing that is…).
Puss in Boots Rated: PG 90min
2pm Sunday 26 February
The kids have been back at school for a month—treat them to this charming family fancy with the lovable green-eyed ginger puss. A fairy-tale infused reality unfolds involving a conniving Humpty Dumpty, a subversive Jack and Jill, a Beanstalk that sprouts beyond the clouds and an oversize Golden Goose.
Carnage Rated: MA 80min
7pm Wednesday 29 February
Arts Margaret River is delighted to partner with MITV to bring the premier of Roman Polanski‟s new black comedy Carnage.
Come to Cape Mentelle on Leap Year Day—listen to Bec and Dave Mann and enjoy an outdoor movie experience—gates open 6pm. Movie plays 7.45pm. Special price tickets can only be purchased from AMR office 10am-4pm weekdays.
Box office and kiosk open 30mins prior to screening

LET THE CAT OUT
Date: Saturday 4th February 2012
Venue: Settlers Tavern
Melbourne-based funk and blues five-piece Let The Cat Out return in 2012 armed with a brand new album titled “Swimming Upstream” featuring the lead single of the same name. The band will launch the new single on a whirlwind tour of Western Australia throughout January and February 2012. Let The Cat Out began recording their long-anticipated second full length album Swimming Upstream, following up 2010’s “Get It Like That” at the beginning September 2011, produced by nationally renowned artist Pete Cornelius.
Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Jane McArthur says of the album, “each song has its own particular feel, we've added in extra instrumentation where we've thought it would add to the message and the vibe of the song, whereas in the first album - we were very much trying to stick to the raw sound of the 5 of us, and be faithful to how we could recreate the songs live. It's still Let The Cat Out, but it's got a bit more added fire, and a bit more complexity. We're guilty of genre-bending again on this album - but perhaps the biggest surprise for some of our fans is a small journey into heavier than usual territory with our tune Captain Creation”.
Their exciting shows and contagious energy make them an increasingly popular live act.

BONNIE 'PRINCE' BILLY CONCERT
Date: 25th & 26th February 2012
Venue: Jewel Cave, Augusta
Already confirmed for the Perth International Arts Festival (and selling fast) Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy has how added Margaret River to his West Australian schedule. It’s no ordinary venue though, in keeping with the rest of the tour and the select venues chosen (Perth Festival Gardens, Sydney Opera House, The Spiegeltent, Eumundi et al), Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy has chosen Jewel Cave for his maiden South Western Australian appearance. With a capacity of just 40 persons and a completely acoustic show this is sure to be an opportunity anyone in the region would not want to miss. Tickets are on-sale now!
Born Will Oldham in Kentucky USA some 40 years ago, Oldham christened the Bonnie mantle after the dissolution of his previous outfit(s), the hugely influential alt-country outfits Palace Brothers and Palace Music. Since then Bonnie 'Prince' Billy has amassed a catalogue of some twelve studio-albums, all weirdly inventive takes on the roots genre: country-western, bluegrass, Appalachian folk, and which has seen cover versions from the likes of Johnny Cash, Cat Power and Mark Lanegan while the list of renowned public admirers would fill a press release on its own.
Live one can never know what to expect from Bonnie 'Prince' Billy other than to hugely entertained.
Oldham is made for this kind of gig, looking as he does like a pastor from the American South; he waves his arms theatrically as he delivers his lyrics, at times bending double as if the emotional weight of the song is a heavy cross to bear. - The Fly.Co.UK
Safe to say those of us who have followed Oldham as he has toured shyly and quietly in support of his seven earlier BPB releases have never seen anything like the Oldham who was energetically bounding around the stage on Sunday like a little yoga Buddha-slash-monkeyman in blue leotard and bare feet. - heyreverb.com
Call it country, call it folk, call it what you Will... it's safe to say that there is nothing out there quite like Bonnie 'Prince' Billy.

Register now for the Delirium 24hr Cycle Race. Participate in one of Australia’s most challenging road cycle events, where teams of 6, and solo riders, race to complete the most laps in 24 hours. The first ever Delirium, held in 2011, was a great event, and 2012 is shaping to be bigger and better!
Bring your friends and family for support and make a weekend of it in the wonderful Margaret River Wine region. There will be lots for everyone to see and do; enjoying the fun and entertainment happening alongside, exploring all the region has to offer, and, of course, people cheering for you as you make another lap.
Grab a team and enter now, or really challenge yourself and enter as a solo rider. This is a great event for corporate teams to build teamwork and fitness.
In 2011, the winning team rode 825km, and one solo rider was on the bike for 23 ½ hours…….think you could do better?
Early-bird registrations close 31st December 2011. Teams of 6 are $600 before 31/12/2011 and $720, thereafter. Solo riders can register for $120 before 31/12/2011 and $140, thereafter.
