Commonage Cafe, Yallingup

This is the place to stop by if you are after freshly roasted coffee to take away with you on your travels through the South West. Commonage Coffee Co is a specialist roast producer that offers ethically sourced single-origin and blended coffee beans from Colombia, Ethiopia, Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica and Mexico.

Yahava Kofeeworks, Margaret River

For those times when you need a coffee on the run, head straight to the drive-through window at Yahava. While it can get busy during peak times, the staff are incredibly efficient at keeping things moving, without you ever having to get out of your car. And of course, it goes without saying that their freshly roasted coffee is delicious.

Gourmet Food Merchant, Cowaramup

The beautiful Gourmet Food Merchant store, located just off Bussell Hwy in Cowaramup, is perfect for ducking in to grab a coffee but you have been warned – the selection of local gourmet produce is incredibly tempting and it’s hard to leave without adding a treat or two to your shopping bag. Think a selection of cheeses made just down the road, fresh sourdough, and a range of jams and chutneys that will zhoosh up any meal. Coffee is by Margaret River Roasting Co.

Spice Odysee, Busselton

Spice Odysee – The Hidden Kitchen is a popular Indian restaurant based in Busselton, or dished from a mobile food van operating in Busselton, Dunsborough and Margaret River. By combining Sathish’s extensive knowledge and Keerthana’s passed-down home-cooked recipes, Spice Odysee has created the perfect blend of traditional Indian curry dishes. Find the food van to enjoy a curry by the beach or takeaway to your home, or head into the restaurant for a truly enjoyable dine-in experience, or pick up from there.

Fishbone Wines, Wilyabrup

Fishbone is a boutique winery renowned for its Japanese-inspired cuisine and its sushi-to-go. There is also a selection of seafood, chicken, or vegan sushi platters that can be ordered a day in advance and will feed up to five people. The vegan Yasai and Inaki Maki rolls available at the restaurant are a particular favourite.

Best takeaway burgers

Burger Baby, Margaret River

The crew at Burger Baby sure do know how to put together a seriously epic burger. The classic flavour combos are all on the menu for the purists among us, or branch out and try their Japanese-inspired burger featuring karaage fried chicken, slaw, kewpie and pickled zucchini. They also offer the option to swap out the meat in any of the burgers for a meat-free Impossible patty, so that everyone can enjoy. All burgers come with chips (because, yes, we do want fries with that), and there are some great sides to add to your order – the sriracha butter wings are life-changing.

Normal Van, Margaret River

Normal Van started as a hugely popular food truck absolutely worth hunting down while you’re in the South West, and has now got its own brick-and-mortar restaurant in the heart of Margaret River town. American-style burgers made with fresh local produce is a winning combo, with chef and owner Rob drawing from his experience working at some of the best restaurants in Canada to bring us authentic flavours that you’ll be dreaming about long after you’ve finished that last bite.

Best seafood

Squid Lips, Margaret River and Dunsborough

Stop into this takeaway seafood joint Squid Lips for gourmet fish and chips, squid rings and salads. There is a great variety of fresh fish such as goldband snapper, barramundi and whiting, which can be grilled, spiced, or cooked in a crispy batter in cold filtered rice bran oil. Or try the salt and pepper baby squid. Add some chilli seasoning for a bit of spice.

Bailey Brewing Co, Dunsborough

Spectacular setting, and great pub food starting with their beautiful sweetlip snapper fish and chips, served with their homemade tartare sauce. Bailey Brewing Co’s relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere invites you to stay a while, or pick up and head off to Rabbit Hill in Yallingup for some seriously good sunset views.

Best takeaway pizza

Swings Taphouse and Kitchen, Margaret River

You may be familiar with their expansive cellar door venue in Yallingup, and Swings Taphouse is their Margaret River township outpost. For those nights when you want something easy and tasty, their delicious woodfired pizza is available for takeaway, packaged up in a deal that includes a bottle of their wine, chips and salad.

Margaret River Woodfired Bread, Margaret River

A loaf of Margaret River Woodfired Bread fresh from the oven probably won’t make it home in one piece, as the decadent smell will be too much to resist a nibble. Made from the finest quality, certified organic ingredients, and a traditional sourdough culture, the loaves ferment with no rush before they get their irresistible crust in woodfired ovens. Origins Market, Busselton

If you are feeling indecisive, or the kids want pizza but you’re in the mood for something a little more fancy, Origins Market in Busselton is home to a revolving cast of food trucks where everyone is sure to find something to tempt their taste buds. Go for authentic Vietnamese food, or try the fusion-style street food at The Butcher’s Wife, who are slinging seriously addictive meat skewers, and you can even grab a bottle of local wine from one of the stalls to accompany your takeaway meal.
